Apple announces iSight Camera Replacement Program for iPhone 6 Plus

Apple has determined that, in a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus devices, the iSight camera located on the back of your iPhone 6 Plus has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry.

The affected units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold primarily between September 2014 and January 2015.

If your iPhone 6 Plus is producing blurry photos and falls into the eligible serial number range, Apple will replace your device’s iSight camera, free of charge.

If your iPhone 6 Plus is in working order and exhibits the symptom described above, use the serial number checker to see if it is eligible for this program. Tap Settings > General > About to see your iOS device’s serial number.

    1. I am in the range too. I’ve always felt that when I’m taking the photos the screen looks blurry but the actual pictures themselves /seem/ sharp enough. I guess I’ll do some testing to see if I can get it to regularly produce a blurry photo.

I can’t find anything to say if this is an in store fix, something that gets shipped out, or if they swap the phone phone for another one.

    2. My 6 Plus failed some weeks ago, going blurry – surprising the heck out of me. Only the front facing camera at lower res is unaffected. In can happen at an inopportune moment as in my case at a birthday party and they were about to blow out the candles. Almost better just to have it replaced before it happens, especially if you are going on trip.

  1. I don’t have a 6 Plus, but quick thinking from Apple on shoving this through early today, to get washed in the “market meltdown” headlines. If Apple had put this out on a regular day, it would be Cook has lost control of Apple quality, Jony Ive has lost his touch, bla bla bla….

  2. My phone is in the recall group, but the pictures seem OK. Is there any use in getting the camera replaced if it’s working fine now? I’ve already made an appointment to do so, just looking for some feedback on whether it’s worth the trouble. Thanks.

  3. Mine is eligible.

For a recall, I believe your camera is covered for the life of the phone, but for only this problem. So a year or so from now, you are still good.

    I have Apple Care +.

If your camera is good, I suggest waiting.

      1. Newer only in production date. I can’t imaging replacing the camera part at the store. It most likely will be a swap. My iPhone 5 had the battery replaced. When Apple says it’s a non-serviceable part, even the techs have trouble. The phone died in 30 days, so they ended up replacing the phone anyway. As it is my camera is doing fine, eligible or not. I would rather wait until it has a problem.

        1. Yes I’m sure it’s a swap since they request backing up the phone before bringing it in. Well I guess I’ll take mine in stat since I use that iPhone camera a helluva lot. I never expected a problem of this sort from the 6 Plus.
