“A report from Chinese publication Economic Daily News suggests that starting next year, Apple will discontinue the iPad mini line and replace it with the bigger 12.2-inch iPad Pro model,” Chris Smith reports for BGR.

“Foxconn is expected to produce the iPad Pro alongside the iPad Air in the future, although it’s not clear when the iPad Pro will launch,” Smith reports. “The bigger tablet should be launched at some point in the third quarter of the year, according to some reports.

  1. it would not make any sense to discontinue the iPad mini unless we are at the point of near paper thin foldable iPads!
The iPhone 6+ plus is no replacement for the mini for any one who really uses the mini and needs the screen for art design extensive reading etc for many of us! it would be great if they turned the mini into a phone though!
So no dumping the mini makes no sense! They can do bigger without dumping the mini! it would be a PR disaster if Apple dumps the mini!

  2. As a professional photographer, I love the idea of a 12″ iPad. I’ve held off on buying an iPad until now because I didn’t really need one. However, with Continuity, Handoff, Pixelmator for iPad, and a future Photos app, I can see using an iPad to rank & select photos on the road, then switching to my Mac on return home for retouching. I was about to put an iPad Air on my Xmas wish list, but now I’m wondering if I should wait… Nah, I’ll be probably be able to upgrade next year for a net cost of around $200. Besides, I really want to be able to show my portfolios on an iPad soon.

  3. NO No no. This does NOT means I was right all along that the iPad Mini was a loser size for the market. It’s just that the iPhone 6 Plus is here to replace it within that size niche.

No need to apologize to me, all you rant-addicts who incessantly bashed me, flamed me, hated-on me. I’m not feeling vindicated or any such ego-feeding emotional fortification. You were right. I was wrong. The iPhone 6 Plus is a brilliant success! We all win. Hurrah, hurrah. 😉

  4. I love my iPad Mini, and, though I plan to buy an iPhone 6 in the next month or so, I have no desire to have an 6 Plus. For my needs, the iPad is too big, and the iPhone 6 Plus is too small. For a phone, I don’t need something as big as the iPhone 6 Plus.

I’m sure this is a “wise” business decision on Apple’s part, but I think it’s unfortunate if the rumor turns out to be true.

  5. I sold my iPad 4 to buy a iPad mini 2 – 32 GB which, as an e-reader, is easier to handle. I do not need an iPhone (phoblet) with the size of an iPad mini. My iPhone 6 – 4.7 is just enough to carry around.
