“Apple today issued invitations for its upcoming iPhone 6 event on September 9, which is also said to include its much-anticipated wearable device,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors. “According to the invitations, Apple is planning to host the event at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts at De Anza College in Cupertino, the same location where Steve Jobs introduced the original Mac 30 years ago.”
“For the occasion, it appears that Apple has been building a massive structure on the campus, which has been kept under tight wraps with a white barricade,” Clover reports.
“A MacRumors reader has sent in images of a mysterious structure at the Flint Center, which appears to span three stories and is protected by ‘scads’ of security people,” Clover reports. “Administrators had previously declined to comment on what the structure is for, stating only ‘We are not at liberty to discuss that due to client wishes.'”

Jim Dalrymple reports for The Loop, “When I saw that Apple was going to hold their Sept. 9 event at the Flint Center for Performing Arts, I thought I would take a drive over and see if anything was happening. To be honest, I didn’t expect much because all of the work would be going on inside—I was wrong.”
“Here are a few pictures,” Dalrymple reports. “As you can imagine, security is very tight around the construction.”

Samsung Electronics CEO Boo-Keun Yoon: “Quick, start building some big white boxes!!! We’ll find out what to do with them on September 9th.”

Apple didn’t do this for the Mac…
Apple didn’t do this for the iPod…
Apple didn’t do this for the iPhone…
Apple didn’t do this for the iPad…
I think we should all invest in Depends.
…the competition is going to need them.
they better be scared!
Apple’s Spaceship HQ (in another dimension the HQ already exists!) has captured a freaking Borg cube..
Consumers will be assimilated….
😉
Its an Apple Store.
The new device is ready to sell on the day its shown.
It’s the iOrgasm.
Think Woody Allen in Sleeper.
This looks cool. I hope it becomes permanent.
Holodeck
To house the massive Cray computers working in the background to make the iWatch look like it’s doing cool stuff on stage.
/joke
Jokes are suppose to be funny or at least amusing.
If you have to label it as one, you failed at both.
If I hadn’t labeled it you would be lecturing me on how stupid an idea a Cray computer is because that square structure obviously doesn’t allow for necessary cooling… or something. Don’t come here to critique posts. Say something relevant to the topic or STFU.
It’s very obvious that you were (as they say in the old movies) “cracking wise”. No one would have taken your comment seriously.
But it certainly was NOT what anyone would call a joke.
Sarcasm, yes. Cynicism, yes. Derision, yes… Joke, no.
Imagine the conversation about this in the Samsung corporate headquarters…
Samsung is copying this already, they just don’t know what to put inside it.
Dr. Phill – coughed up coffee — thanks, man…
May I suggest all the shipped / not sold and returned units!
Ha ha — Oh man – perhaps all those non-upgradable Galaxy S fives they can’t sell.
Apple knows how to make a splash, that’s for sure.
Put out hints, then put out a big structure, leave hints by the location and cause all sorts of media speculation.
You can’t buy that much advertising that Apple is getting for free.
Don’t forget Gaagle had their barges.
Exciting! What could it be for??
Something for the 30th Anniversary of the Mac?
16 years from the Macintosh to the iMac
*** 1984 to 1998 ***
16 years from the iMac to the iMnotsure
*** 1998 to 2014 ***
Sweet
(I hear the building’s for ConnectedHome stuff. Get an iWatch at the door and walk around controlling things with your voice. Leave the iWatch and your breath at the door when you leave.)
The iMac is already the perfect computer / gaming system / now add apple tv to the mixture. And its rather logical too.
Yes, its 3 things in one!
A computer
A gaming system
A television entertainment device
Yup, iMac gets bigger and better – it becomes the Apple TV we all been waiting for, a web enabled television – computer – gaming console – telecommunications hub – browser etc…
Tim hates the idea of convergence – doh !
But it doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
Maybe it’s for some kind of court (basketball?) or other type of sports related demonstration.
OMG – Apple really is copying Google. Google was the first to build mysterious, blocky white structures surrounded by scads of security.
http://www.cnet.com/news/is-google-building-a-hulking-floating-data-center-in-sf-bay/
Kidding.
Google barge was just a bunch of shipping containers piled on top of each other. They had two barges. They moved the SF bay one to Stockton where it just sits. No activity seems to be going on there.
It’s a statue of Steve Jobs surrounded by the Mac, Imac, iphone, ipod, ipad,
I just drove over to see it. I had not been on that part of Stevens Creek for a while. The thing looks to be about 3 stories high, I estimate it is about 120 feet square. They will not let you within 100 feet of it. I asked a couple of students how long it has been there and they said about a month. That is all I could find out.
How far is that from where you work in Mt. View?
So, you still insist on conferring troll status on Joe?
Good girl, er, woman. Keep ’em honest …
Wish they could show more.
Anyone in the area got a drone with a GoPro mounted that can check it out and post?
Be scared, very scared.
I believe that Steve Jobs, after viewing the 1997 mathematics-based horror film Cube, filed the concept away for future use, just as he had done for the 1951 cautionary tale The Thing From Another World (“Keep watching the skies!”).
We may be witnessing an actualisation of two of Jobs’s hallucinogenic visions, in the first case a recreation of the enigmatic Cube at Flint Centre, in the second a recreation of the Antarctic alien saucer at the new “spaceship” campus at Cupertino.
Just a notion, crazed though it may seem.
Man! That’s gonna be a humongous iPhone!
It’s got to be a house! An IOS controlled house.
My take exactly!
A home? SIRIously!
A large-scale model of Yosemite Falls, called “Yosemite Rises.”
I’m thinking it may be some sort of status or tribute to Steve Jobs and the original Mac since it was first unveiled there – to be dedicated or presented along with the new products, and the “2 story building” is temporary to conceal it in the meantime. Just guessing here…..
Inverse monolith.
It sure beats building floating cargo container buildings in the bay.
My guess. It is a retail store which shows displays new products and shows off e-wallet, NFC use, wearable interaction with retail as well as health.
Giant bank vault. Or pointless floating barge constructed of discarded shipping containers.
Looks like a house to show off tablet TV product for ipad
