KGI Securities: Apple iWatch could be postponed to 2015

“The lack of smoke signals and reports of millions of wearable devices actually going into production have led KGI Securities to declare: ‘We believe the launch of iWatch could be postponed to 2015,'” Dan McCrum reports for Financial Times.

We reiterate our view that iWatch, as compared to existing products, and as Apple’s first attempt at a wearable device, represents a much higher level of difficulty for the company as regards component and system design, manufacturing and integration between hardware and software. While we are positive on iWatch and believe that the advantages of the design and business model behind it are difficult to copy, we think, given the aforementioned challenges, that the launch could be postponed to 2015. – KGI Securities

  1. Beautifully spun cotton candy cack:

    “…as Apple’s first attempt at a wearable device…”

    (Obviously not)

“…represents a much higher level of difficulty for the company as regards component and system design, manufacturing and integration between hardware and software…”

(Their guess, covering all possible bases)

“…While we are positive on iWatch and believe that the advantages of the design and business model behind it…”

    (Of which they know next-to-nothing)

    “…are difficult to copy…”

(Copying what from whom? Apple ≠ Samsung)

“…we think, given the aforementioned challenges, that the launch could be postponed to 2015…”

(Even though there never was a ‘launch’ date at all)

  2. Perfect timing. Apple just moves into a 52 week high and this hit piece comes out.
Pump the stock up to get investors to increase the price.
Once the momentum starts, then start hitting the market with FUD reports to drop the price again.
In the meantime brokers have sold their positions to cash in and wait for the price to drop again once the FUD has its effect.

    1. Yep, that’s the game. The trick is to play with it. Not sure this hit piece will have much effect but the iWatch and other rumors will pump up the stock and then at 10:05 am Sept 9th the stock will crash from “nothing new” syndrome.

However, I have full confidence that Apple will be bigger than ever and stock will do good this year.

  3. Kuo has turned into a payola analist !
Stock has gone up too much.. Time for shorts to spread FUD.

“I watch is delayed…. ” ..Delayed implies an official release date! Please Kuo delayed from what official date it was supposed to be out?

  4. don’t know if there’s any substance to all these rumours but…

As investor (and as a fan) I think I’ll rather an ‘i Watch’ be delayed if they need to to get it right than rush for some artificial dateline. If they launch a half cooked product (like the Samsung S5 fingerprint sensor that doesn’t work) it’ll hurt the stock more.

When Jobs had the iPhone prototype and his keys in his pocket scratched the screen he asked them to ‘do it again’ although it was close to launch.
Apple investors get rich because the company gets it right.

Paraphrasing Jobs: product first and the bottom line will take care of itself.
