“The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 46 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.”
“In this particular report we cover two key patents. The first covers an advanced haptics system for iDevices. The second is for a new 3D camera system that could apply to future iDevices and/or a standalone cameraPurcher reportsIn April we posted a report titled ‘Future High-End Android Smartphones with 3D Cameras will be using Apple’s PrimeSense Technology.'” It now appears that Apple has their own surprise in the works. Between PrimeSense’s 3D camera technology and acquiring an advanced 3D camera patent from one of the leading experts in this field, Apple is out to challenge Android OEMs on this front in the not-too-distant future.”
Purcher reports, “Apple has [also] been granted a patent today for their invention relating to ‘Methods and systems for providing haptic control.'”

Apple could take down Project Tango in no time flat. Google has delayed the project handing it off to LG. That will give Apple just enough time to debut a 3D camera for the iPhone and squash Tango like a bug. That would be sweet.

I like what Amazon did with their 3D lock screens. It would be cool to be able to use a 3D camera for something like that. It will finally take photography to the next level with added depth to camera.
As for the haptics invention, I think that could come to market if it used OLED displays. I can’t see it happening on an LCD display. I looked up the patent and it relates to a flexible display.
