Jimmy Iovine in talks to join Apple as a ‘special adviser’ to Tim Cook, sources say

“Beats Electronics boss and veteran music industry executive Jimmy Iovine is in talks to join Apple as a ‘special adviser’ to Tim Cook on creative matters, two sources close to talks tell The Post,” Claire Atkinson reports for The New York Post.

“Iovine, who is the co-creator of Beats with partner Dr. Dre, is also chairman of Universal Music Group’s Interscope, Geffen and A&M labels, home to Lady Gaga and Eminem, among others,” Atkinson reports. “Apple is in talks to acquire Beats — which produces headphones and houses a streaming music service — for $3.2 billion, The Post confirmed.”

Atkinson reports, “Iovine’s contract with UMG runs until the end of 2014.”

      1. Think about this then Mr intelligent:

The groundwork and agreements for music streaming rights and operations have already more than been established by Beats and Iovine…

Apple gains a digital streaming and experienced licensing team to manage and develop it’s interests, present and future, in this arena, which is tantamount to building a new division ( Think) without the need for building a foundation, which would probably cost Apple as much, if not more and take a valuable time…

        1. Deals are not transferable when Apple buys Beats. Genius. And will be more of a headache to manage than it is worth. And it’s way too much money. Genius.

        2. TMac won’t show proof because there is not any public evidence; it would be contained within the contracts. Any contracts held by Beats will either have an anti-assignment provision or they won’t, it’s as simple as that. If streaming agreements are an important part of Apple’s interest in this deal, then common sense dictates that they would not be at the negotiating table if the corresponding contracts contained any provisions preventing assignment to another party.

  1. If they want him so badly (and, really, why would this be), why don’t they just hire him for this role? The entire topic is painful to read about. It reminds me of Mattel buying The Learning Company.
