Photos claim to show iPhone 5S packaging featuring Home Button fingerprint sensor

“Only days away from Apple’s September 10th iPhone event, new photos have come out which claim to show the box for the upcoming iPhone 5S,” Michael Steeber reports for 9to5Mac.

“The same site has also leaked alleged photos of iPhone 5C packaging in the past,” Steeber reports. “Notable here is the tweaked home button design, which appears to ditch the iconic inset square in favor of a ring around the edge.”

Steeber reports, “Some have also speculated that the gray rings on the Apple event invitation are references to the new fingerprint sensor.”

  1. Switching the shape on the button wouldn’t make sense. The shape on the home button matches the shape of the app icons. It’s a simple, subtle clue to what the button does.

    1. Why wouldn’t they change the background on the iPhone to be light colored like on the Apple web site? This seems suspicious to me. The black background doesn’t seem appropriate given the new look and feel of iOS7.

      1. Sorry, but the hardware change for the 5 was what exactly? The only discernible difference was 1/1000th of an inch in depth. Apple will not coast for a fourth year though. There’s no way the “new” phone will look (almost) exactly like the phone they introduced four years ago. They’re smarter than that. They know nobody will be excited to upgrade to a phone that looks like it has already been around for so long.

  2. I hope this rumor is true.
A fingerprint sensor would be bad-a$$

Using a Passcode is a giant PITA but if you want security it is a necessary evil. Unless the rumor is true then security could potentially become invisible i.e. it just works.

Bunch of Ifs here, but IF Apple is using a FP sensor and IF they bring it to the iPad how amazing would multiple accounts on the same iPad be? OTOH maybe Apple doesn’t want multiple account because they want you to buy multiple devices. 😉
