Apple’s iPad is killing Samsung, Google’s Android in tablet profits

“It’s hard to understand why Strategy Analytics was focusing attention on its dubious claim that Samsung’s handset profits had supposedly come within $600 million of Apple’s iPhone profits, while ignoring the corollary conclusion: Apple’s iPad and Mac sales were destroying Samsung’s entire Galaxy Tab, Chromebook and Windows PC division by a factor of ten, or a difference of $4,160 million,” Daniel Eran Dilger reports for AppleInsider.

“While Apple has convinced vast audiences to buy its other non-iPhone products, particularly iPads, Samsung hasn’t,” Dilger reports. “Samsung still makes less money than Apple on sales of twice as many handsets, but it makes just a tiny fraction of Apple’s tablet profits despite shipping about half as many. ”

    1. During the first crusade to the Holy Land, the crusaders when they reached the walls of Jerusalem and were besieging the Saracens defending the citadel, were in fact on horseback on horses that were bought along the way from Turkish Muslim and Armenian Christian traders as most of the horses that they had ridden with them from the European continent had died along the way due to malnutrition (lack of feed) or were simply slaughtered to slake their hunger because food was so scarce in the desert surroundings on the march to Jerusalem.

Some crusaders resorted to outright cannibalism and roasted whole human beings over spits and ate the flesh as a sign of victory to show the Saracens that they weren’t messing around but were intent on claiming Jerusalem for the Christian crusaders.

      1. Eh? Please make your point clearer, caller, the context of your statement seems to have to connection to the subject at hand.
        The only conclusion we can draw is either;
        1) BLN is shit-faced, or:
        2) he’s gone completely off his rocker.
        Or,
        3) Both.

        1. No. As a non fanboy American I would support the president if he were to side with the ruling. That is I don’t believe that he should veto just because Apple is an American company. Even though I believe in supporting everything American. If possible But that’s me, I’m not the president. He is supposed to be objective and fair. Remember, objective is a word seldom understood on this site. Generally it’s Apple is right and everybody else is always wrong here. How foolish is that! However in this case I believe that the president was right in vetoing this ruling. It seems to me at least that the facts speak for themself. I believe he did the right thing. And it’s as simple as that.

        2. I agree with your belief that the President should do what is right, not just support an American company. In this case, the veto was the right thing to do.

Please quit telling us how objective and reasonable you are and how blind and biased the rest of us are. It gets old fast, and it is not true for the majority of us on this forum.

  1. Both Appleinsider and MacRumors now have full reports on the Obama administration’s veto of the ITC ban on older Apple products. But crickets from MDN. The anti-Obama, hard-right leaning perspective of MDN couldn’t be more obvious. I hope those of you out there who, like me, find that MDNs injection of partisan politics into an Apple-centric “news” site greatly detracts from its value, will continue to express our displeasure with MDN for “as long as it takes”.

    1. Crickets for now, but only because it’s the weekend. MDN takes weekends and holidays off. And this veto came as a surprise; no around-the-clock “death watch” had been set up with your intrepid reporter on the scene. Remember, page views dictate content, so come Monday expect the site to be papered with relevant stories.

  2. Wall Street is controlled by a bunch of jackasses. To them, Android market share is everything. If companies in China are shipping tens of millions of tablets for less than $100 these idiot hedge fund managers think its going to put Apple out of business because it’s too much competition for Apple to handle. Most of those tablets are horribly underpowered and probably won’t last more than a weeks’ use. Honestly if some mid-tier Android tablets are stuttery, I can only imagine how some of those low-memory, low-spec’ed Android tablets would be. Their touch displays are probably atrocious. What is it with Wall Street loving floods of cheap junk for consumers.

  3. Not to call you a whiner for complaining that MDN didn’t post anything on the weekend over the veto, but they do –like most citizens of the USA — take off for the weekend for the most part. Sorry if you’re impatient.

As someone who voted for Obama 2xs, he is no friend of Apple. He waited until the weekend to veto so that it would get lost in Monday’s wave of reporting. He has also stood by Amazon as they’ve destroyed smaller businesses that can’t compete against their severe undercutting all the while watching Apple become the whipping boy of the “DOJ”.

Not sure how you could think Obama isn’t a PoS politician that can’t be had by the highest bidder at this point, same as all of Washington DC.

    1. bpondo, your take is absolutely dead on. Like you I voted for this con man twice. Only after he was safely re-elected did the gloves come off. This is a truly dangerous man heading a ruthless and shameless administration.

  4. Why don’t you, Apple & Samsung grow up and stop pouring money into lawyers pockets and do what you do best? Forget all your squabbles, move on. You have both made products which delight your fans, irrespective of who has stolen this or that.
I, for one, am not interested in the politics and problems of your respective company’s , just give us, the paying person the benefit of your wonderful products.

    1. While I agree with your sentiment, the result of this would be Apple paying the same as everyone else SEP license to Samsung and Samsung cloning Apple and paying nothing, calling it their own innovations.
