“When iOS in the Car was introduced at this summer’s Worldwide Developer Conference, Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, the group that manages iTunes, iCloud, the App Store, iMessages, Siri and Maps, showcased a dozen auto marques, representing nine different makers: Honda/Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan/Infiniti, Ferrari, Chevrolet/Opel, Kia, Hyundai, Volvo and Jaguar, noting that they ‘are all introducing iOS integration in 2014,'” Daniel Eran Dilger reports for AppleInsider.
“He didn’t specifically clarify whether that meant they would all adopt iOS in the Car, as opposed to simpler efforts related to Siri Eyes Free,” Dilger reports. “However, the list of companies that already committed to support basic Eyes Free includes manufacturers that Cue didn’t list: BMW, Land Rover, Audi, Toyota and Chrysler.”
Dilger reports, “That indicates that Cue’s list of automotive iOS adopters isn’t just integrating hands free access to Siri; they’ve committed to launch the full enchilada on at least some of their cars next year. That list also isn’t exhaustive; there are additional significant automakers who have expressed interest in Apple’s plans but have not yet committed to its boldly aggressive insistence on deploying iOS in the Car by 2014. ”

Strange, but could be a great thing. Both for cars and for Apple.
Please please please be available in the 2014 Corvette!
That would be nice. My 2008 ‘Vette is ready for a replacement (I’m tired of the crap interior – otherwise…) I’ll be shopping for two cars this year. iOS will be instrumental in my decision.
This September, at the Palos Verdes Concours D’Elegance, our Grand Marshal will be Peter Brock, designer of the ’63 Corvette Stingray — the split window fastback. If you’re in SoCal don’t miss the show.
Canada. ‘have to miss it. 🙂
I want to know how I can retrofit this into my 2012 Civic.
Buy a new car then. Simply, easy as piece of cake.
Maybe that’s the threat. “If you don’t put this in your car, we will release a device that can give capability. We’ll have it available at Best Buy for installation. I’ll bet we’ll have a few million in sales given our fan base.”
This will happen anyway. Maybe not as smooth as the factory install, but within six months. I’m hoping to retrofit my ’99 CR-V and my 2003 motorhome. Can you believe the motorhome has a 6-cd changer in a double DIN slot. How much real estate can you ask for?
I wish I could buy a new car just to get Sync out of my car.
Ford, you ruined your reputation with me because of Sync.
OMG yes!! Microsoft’s Ford Sync is an abomination.
In 2014 they better be planning numerous aggressive launches, especially on the iPhone front.
Ford may have a difficult time recovering from their dumb decision to deploy Microsoft software in their vehicles.
I have a friend who has a Mustang with Microsoft technology in it. Really bad!
Aston Martin just signed an agreement to take (unspecified) Mercedes electronic technology. I suspect that will include their version of this too.
What about the world’s largest car company ie Volkswagen
If it’s in Audi, it will likely be in VW, Porsche, etc.
Just saw a Chevrolet commercial last night for a new model FEATURING (their words) Siri Eyes Free.
I just want a dummy device with a screen, wifi, and aux sound, so i can Airplay data from my iphone and get maps and other useful info on the device screen when i’m driving around.
If its in Audi, it’ll likely appear in other mass-market cars in the group, VW, Skoda, and Seat, but Bentley and Lamborghini may not feature; Bentley use British Naim Audio in their cars, and I can’t find any specs for their systems.
Probably iPod/iPhone integration, but don’t know what else.
I hope it comes with a system to block email, texting, surfing the web, etc. when the car is in motion.
