“The iPhone was stolen from the Coalition nightclub in Brighton, East Sussex, earlier this month,” Emily Kent Smith reports for The Telegraph. “But the owner had installed an app that takes a picture of anyone trying to unlock it and then sends the information back to them via email.”
“When the woman tried to unlock the iPhone her picture was taken and sent to the owner. It was then passed on to Sussex Police,” Smith reports. “It is thought the app used is iGotYa, which is activated when an incorrect passcode is entered into the keypad.”
Smith reports, “Pc Gavin Crute from Sussex Police said… ‘We don’t know that the woman is the person who stole the camera, but she obviously has had some connection with it in the meantime and I’d like to speak to her about it.'”

MacDailyNews Note: From the App Store descriptions of the two apps we found named “iGotYa,” neither seems to do what’s described above.
I sooooo love it when crooks get caught.
It’s a jailbroken app on cydia.
There’s no way Apple would’ve opened an API to snap a picture on unlock. It’s pretty damn obvious this is only possible via jailbreak, MDN is just being coy given their stance that you shouldn’t JB a device that’s already perfect for all users.
It’s a jailbreak app available through Cydia.
So many fake story’s these days. Is anything real anymore?
Nooo… not since quantum theory was developed anyway.
For another take, try Fritz Leiber’s ‘The Big Time’.
The iGotYa app mentioned in the article is a Cydia Jailbreak app.
“Ere, wots this then?” SNAP!
No wonder the Sussex police were involved. She took nude photos of herself while trying to unlock the iPhone. In Britain Sussex means a surfeit of sex.
Lightbulb. I’m sending Minka Kelly an iPhone for Christmas and tell her it’s already activated and give her the wrong password.
Make the password as complex as possible using a 24 letter string. Tell her it’s only 6 letters long & she has to keep guessing in her bedroom.
Genius
Really? I’m English, and I’ve never heard of the county of Sussex being a synonym for a surfeit of sex before.
Care to enlighten us on where you picked up that little gem?
Your’e obviously confused with Essex.
What do Essex girls use for protection during sex? Bus shelters.

“In Britain Sussex means a surfeit of sex.”
Where’d you get that idea from BLN? I’m not in Sussex but close enough to it to tell you all that this claim is total nonsense.
She may need another jailbreak app to get her out of the Sussex jail. 🙂
All she need is certain specific skill sets in the “oral” area 🙂
I’m offended.
I think the name of the app is IGot-U…
Apple needs (not should, but needs to) to include this feature in their next IOS update.
Had she tried to unlock a W8 phone it would have just flashed up a picture of a grinning Ballmer with his tongue sticking out – the ultimate theft deterrent!
I tried to put that app on iPhone, but Apple rejected it as porn.
Next step, the iExplodeInYourHand in-app purchase.
The app’s called iGotYou, it’s 60p on the UK App Store – I just bought it.
It is not igotya app that topk the picture. It looks like FoneHome
