5 great things about Apple’s new iOS 6

“Apple made iOS 6 available to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch on Wednesday. The new platform brings with it more than 200 new features, according to Apple, and a slight refresh in the way the operating system looks,” Eric Zeman writes for InformationWeek.

“I’ve been beta testing iOS 6 on the iPhone 4S for several months, but I had not installed iOS 6 on my iPad before it was released to the general public,” Zeman writes. “After using it for several hours, here are things I found that I really like.”

5 great things about Apple’s iOS 6:
1. Facebook Integration
2. Do Not Disturb
3. Shared Photo Stream
4. Safari Syncing
5. Passbook

  1. The Panorama camera feature is superb too – brilliant indoors and no doubt will be a winner with Estate Agents (am in the UK).
Can’t wait to try it out on a landscape.

  2. Passbook sucks so far. I can some up my initial review of iOS 6 with the following 3 words:

    Good
    Bad
    Ugly

If this is the best Apple can do then it may be time for me to think of switching to Windows 8 with the Nokia Lumia 920. I have had the 3G, 4 and 4S. Up until today, I have been happy with the iPhone and iOS. Now… Not so much.

      1. Troll it up peterblood71! your message will not effect any outcome in the slightest throughout the universe – YES thats right you make absolutely no difference at all – probably the same for your life efforts i’m betting

  3. Apple fucked up the following on iOS 6:

    – Font sizes in mail are not independently adjustable. It looks like shit on the iPhone – tinier than a gnat’s ass.
    – You can’t finger scroll across reminder categories but have to use a categories chooser. Totally wasted step.
    – Calling up groups in contacts is totally retarded. More than retarded – brainless. You have to check and uncheck groups when before you could select a group by pressing on it. Another redundant gesture added for no benefit.
    – Integration of Facebook and Twitter is a total waste of time when you can’t attach files to mail. Fail.

Was iOS 6 developed by attention deficit disordered employees in Bandley Drive?

“- You can’t finger scroll across reminder categories but have to use a categories chooser. Totally wasted step.”

Not true, you just have to swipe across the category name and it behaves the same way as before; minus the dots.

They did this so that they could add the, consistent, slide to delete individual items.

  4. In app store, you can’t view more than 5 reviews. When you click on “more reviews,” nothing happens. I like reading as many as I need to to help me make a decision. Else, I do it all on my iMac instead of iOS 6. Or don’t bother.

    1. Apple is very generous with their returns policy. If you write in politely to them saying why you don’t like an app, they’ll more than likely refund you the cost of the app.

So if it’s the truncated reviews that are preventing you from trying out an app, you have this safety net you can rely on. I can’t guarantee they will agree to a refund every single time but so far in my case they have been very decent about it.

    1. i noticed that also, I like it.

what I don’t like… that it stays on the update screen after it’s updated. I press the usual “update” to refresh… stays there showing “open”

Apple, when it’s updated… remove it from the Updates screen. (or at least remove it when the user refreshes the updates screen) I did close the app store and re opened it, and they were gone though.

#2 and #4 above are my favorite so far.

  5. I like the turn-by-turn Maps. I haven’t used it enough to determine if it’s more inaccurate than Google Maps, but I never used Street View anyway. This way I don’t unexpectedly look at some woman peeing next to a car. 😉

  6. As a day 1 iPad owner I was disappointed to find out that iOS 6 is not available for my iPad. I completely missed those reports. There are plenty of new features that would have worked just fine and some that would not have but really iPhone 3GS …

  7. You can’t refresh the list of updates in the App Store. Previously if you double pressed the updates icon, the list would refresh.
The only way is to quit the app then launch it again. Frustrating.
    Anyone found an easier solution?

  8. Apple maps, lackluster features list overall in ios6! This may also be a deal breaker for me too. I’m super annoyed how apple could do something like this, because of this I am not considering upgrading any of my apple products, MacBook, ipad 2, iPhone 4, iPod nano… I’m starting to lose confidence in this platform and my ipad is full of useless iApps that I won’t use and can’t delete… Oh and thanks for the clock app, Not! I actually bought one from the App Store because apple amazingly didn’t include one with the ipad before ios6… Do I get a refund?!?

  9. Fuck ios 6!!! Worst update ever! If you thinking about getting anything from apple, dont. They are unreliable and trick you into updating something you really never need. Apple is a joke and suck balls. Android is the way to go! Everybody should update their phones by getting an Android! I have no more faith for this company, and apple has ruined itself, and steve Jobs has turned over in his grave. Fuck Apple for ios 6. And they dont even give you the option to go back to ios 5, what a fuckin joke! Fuck you Apple! Im gonna spread the word around town to never get any apple products. Why? Because you have betrayed all of the people that stayed loyal to apple. Fuck Apple!!! Get Android. Apple users are pissed. So im quiting apple for good. Apple will soon fall and fail, just because of their stupidity and false claims about updating to ios 6. ios 6 is a downgrade, not an update! Fuck Apple! Get Android.
