iPhone 5 pre-orders start Sept. 12, launch Sept. 21, international launches begin October 5, sources say

“A couple of weeks ago iMore reported that Apple would be holding their iPhone 5 event on September 12, 2012,” Rene Ritchie reports for iMore, citing “sources that have provided iMore with accurate iPhone related launch dates in the past.”

“We’ve since learned that iPhone 5 pre-orders are currently planned to begin that same day, at least in the U.S.,” Ritchie reports. “Release is still planned for 9 days later, on September 21, 2012.”

Ritchie reports, “We’ve also learned that the second wave of iPhone launches, the ones in international markets, will begin in the first week of October, likely October 5.”

  1. Cars don’t get new names each year – except maybe the Mustang II. Computers and smartphones don’t need them either. Just calling it the iPhone and the year it was made is fine. The year will let you know what CPU and screen and features it has.

      1. However, it does make it more difficult to locate compatible components, like a hard drive or RAM, because you can’t just say “I have an ’09 iMac”, you have to look up the serial number, or model, or some distinctive feature.

        If I have an iPhone 5, people automatically know what’s included, it’s easy to find cases, etc. that fit or work with it.

        In a couple of years, will an iPhone accessory that works with the “New iPhone” work with the iPhone 5, 6, 7, 4S, or all?
