“If you missed the launch day pre-orders and want to get an iPad on Friday, you should start planning your strategy now,” Kelly Hodgkins reports for TUAW. “Like any good consumer, you’ll need to decide which store will have the most iPads and the smallest line so you can maximize your chances of getting the model that you want.”
“In the past, customers have lined up in advance and waited at least overnight to get their hands on the latest iPad,” Hodgkins reports. “This year, it’s all up for grabs because Apple had an ample supply of pre-order tablets that’ll be delivered on launch day. A lot of people who wanted an iPad already pre-ordered one and will have one in their hands on Friday.”
Hodgkins reports, “f you plan on hustling down to a store on Friday, here is a list of retailers that’ll have a limited supply of iPads on sale. A few pro tips: be sure to call ahead to make sure the store will be selling the iPad, get there early as sales are first come, first-served and ask about any procedures if there happens to be a line.”

And for the love of Jobs don’t park in or walk through a secluded area on the way out, to avoid getting mugged (this happened recently for some recent, high-profile product launch where immediate resale value was very high; can’t say for sure it was the iPhone 4S, might have been the Nike shoes).
another good tip is to not keep milky way bars in your pockets when it gets hot outside. They tend to melt and get messy.
This is good advice whether you plan to buy an iPad or not.
Nike shoes are crap. I’d be mugging someone and leaving him with the Nikes while I took what he was wearing. (Hopefully New Balances.)
Everyone knows Steve Jobs wore New Balances, not Nikes.

Every time I go downtown to the apple Store to buy something.. I’ve been armed.
Only had to flash it once, but it gets the point across. 🙂
But… People, DO be careful. When you walk out of the Apple store.
A few tips:
Keep it in the bag.
Keep said bag close to you.
bring a bag from a different store to put iPad in… (hide the obvious Apple purchase)
pay attention.. Thieves prey on those that do not.
Turn your iPhone off until you are home, see above.
Bring a friend (or two) don’t go it alone.
If you THINK someone is following you… go into the nearest store… Safer to be thought of a pervert when you walk into the victoria’s secret (Or madam jo’s Sex dungeon) than get mugged.
and seriously, an iPad is an item… not worth your life.
I almost always carry, but I have had years of training and practice. And I don’t take it lightly, as would any responsible gun owner. I’d only shoot someone over my iPad IF they actually physically attacked me… Last resort.

Side note.. My new Apple TV *should* be here tomorrow… Got the email today and it’s a few states away, but “Overnight Delivery” from FedEx…
