In a move that reeks of desperation, beleaguered RIM is offering BlackBerry business customers one free BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with every two purchased through Dec. 31, 2011.
Amateur hour is over, it’s liquidation time!
As an “additional bonus,” suckers customers receive one “premium” accessory per BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. Either a black BlackBerry leather sleeve, a BlackBerry Charging Pod, or a 6 ft. HDMI Cable.
RIM’s ‘Buy 2, get 1 free’ page is here.

RIM slashes prices, PlayBooks continue selling like snotcakes – October 27, 2011
Oh my god!! really RIM?
wow…
ohh wait, there’s more:
Receive one premium accessory per BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.2 Choose from the following accessories:
BlackBerry® Leather Sleeve, Black
BlackBerry® Charging Pod
High-Speed HDMI™ Cable, 6 ft.
Now, that’s something
OK, here’s the thing I don’t get. Who *really* needs THREE tablets??
I mean, I guess someone married, *and* with teenage children, maybe? But for any younger person (ie. 20s or so), anyone older whose kids are on their own, or anyone who’s simply single or has no children, this promotion is utterly useless.
(Add up the above, and it’s a BIG chunk of the population!!)
Buy ONE, get one half off would be financially the same thing and they’d probably be MUCH more likely to get people to actually buy the pieces of crap! Otherwise, just people buying 2, then re-selling the free one?
Ah, just figured it out…this is targeted at business customers. I was thinking end consumers. I guess it makes a little more sense for businesses, but still…
you always could sell them, of give it to friends, or familly members. or you can used a different one when the one you’re using get’s sluguish and full of bugs =P
Glad I am not your friend or family member … Give me a iPad you cheap son of a gun :=)
Yeah can you imagine this scenario:
“Hey kids I bought all three of you your own tablet!”
Kids: “Yay!”
“And it’s a RIM Playbook!”
Kids: “Awwww geeeez, are you kidding? No iPad? Eeeyew! We HAVE no father!”
LOOL
laughing hard over here!
I believe it would more go like this:
“Hey kids, I bought all three of you your own iPad!”
Kids:”Yay,”
“And it’s the Playbook iPad!”
Kids:”Awwww man! We know the difference between real and fake iPads! We don’t want it!”
Queue in Jim Morrison here:
“Father?”
“Yes, son?”
“I want to kill you.”
Just sell them to Amazon and rebrand as Fires.
Comes with a free trash bag, too!
Seems like a lot of money for a 6 foot HDMI cable.
It’s to hang yourself with, after buying 3 crappy tablets
bingo =P
They should try, “Buy 1, get at least 2 free”?
Don’t worry, that’s coming in a few weeks…
Possible indeed.
Sad actually.
Good one!!
some day they’ll be offering
“Buy one Playbook, get to be CEO for a week!”
If you act now, we’ll throw in a set of Ginzu knives.
and you could use the playbook as a board to use the knives on, well…there’s a heck of a combo
Charger not included. When the battery runs down, toss it and move on to the next tablet.
Hah!
Now people won’t want the PlayBook three times as badly.
I noticed link to RIM’s Playbook ad didn’t tout it’s ability to play Flash!
Apple should tweak RIM and others with an ad of their own, saying something like…
‘Buy One 16 GB WiFi iPad at Full retail Price AND get a Second 16 GB WiFi iPad for $499.00! Now THAT’s a Deal!’
Where at Apple, our products are worth every penny!
Also known as “Over 66% off when you buy 3”.
And considering what a HDMI cable costs from Monoprice.com, that cable’s not much of an incentive.
That’s “Over 33% off when you buy 3.” You’re paying 66%.
Once this is done, RIM will send out a press release.
Due to unprecedented demand for playbooks, we have decided to continue building them. In less than a month our entire inventories from all our retailers has been sold out. We didn’t expect such high demands that even blows always iPad sales for the quarter. – RIM CEO’s
Hundreds of Kids get BlackBerry PlayBooks for Christmas.
They trade them on eBay and Amazon for lumps of coal.
“Buy two, get one free”???
Unless it’s BOGO, I’m not interested.
This 33% off sale is likely to be a huge FAIL. As expressed above, who needs or wants 3 PlayBooks? Enterprise companies? I don’t think so.
Come back in January, after RIM has inventoried their remaining stock after Christmas: They’ll be selling off the PlayBook as paving stones for your patio.
RIM would do better by throwing in a book of free coupons for Mickey D’s.
