A look at Apple’s Assistant interface for the new iPhone (with video)

“Apple has been rumored to be working on advanced speech recognition technology for some time,” Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors. “The Siri/Nuance-based voice recognition Assistant will be the major new feature in the next generation iPhone and will be an iPhone 4S/5 exclusive feature.”

“The Assistant will allow users to speak to their iPhones in order to schedule appointments, send text messages, retrieve information and much more,” Kim reports. “Voice recognition happens on the fly and reportedly with great accuracy.”

Kim reports, “We contracted Jan-Michael Cart to put together a video representation of the Assistant workflow… Due to the short turnaround, we know that not all elements in the video represent actual look/feel of the Assistant interface, but should show off the general workflow.”

  1. Good I hope this is legit and not just a mock up. Suck it Android speech recognition. This UI looks amazing. Once again, not the first to do it but the best to implement it.

    1. Macrumors did the mockup “Based on the information we got from our source”

So, I do think its legit. And if you’ve used the siri app, it actually uses this conversation style interface. 🙂

It had better be true. >:D

    2. Well this is of course a mock up of the UI (no one out side Apple has seen the actual UI) but the things that are being requested are not a mock up. Siri can do all these things currently so there’s no reason the new iPhone can’t do these things as well.

    3. This is a demo (mock-up) YES…

“We contracted Jan-Michael Cart to put together a video representation of the Assistant workflow”.

Apple will ACTUALLY have it better.
Since the HOME button is no longer physical (mechanical),
an UPWARD slide motion to the HOME button, places the VOICE mode in lock – hence HANDS-FREE.

Again – say bye bye to your bluetooth ear piece.
      It’s no-longert needed.

      Thx C.E.A

  2. Puts phone to face. Murmurs softly into the microphone, “iPhone get me Minka Kelly and tell her to arrive braless at the poolhouse cabana at 7.30 for dinner on Friday night. And iPhone, don’t screw it up. Seacrest out.”

    1. In my experience the Google speech recognition was mostly just turning your words directly into a Google search. This actually decodes your speech and finds out how it applies to a bunch of different stuff.

  3. I want more GD it. I can only watch that 30 second video so many times. I want the f’n thing NOW. What sucks is Tuesday gonna come and they’ll say ” In one month the new iPhone 5 (hopefully) will be up for pre order. I love my 4. But I need just a .5 of a bigger screen. Just a lil sum sum. And of course all the new features and hardware. Which is a given. What think the bigger screen should be to. But this 4s bs doesn’t sound like new body.

    1. Why does everyone want a new body for? A slimmer iPhone 4 body will do me. The iPhone 4 body is truly a magical piece of art and design. For me, they can take all the iPhone 5 “guts” put it into a slimmer iPhone 4 body and they can call it 4s and I will be happy.
