“Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha said on Tuesday that his company is planning to roll out tablets with ‘aggressive form factors’ later this year, while also indicating that smartphones remain the top priority,” Josh Ong reports for AppleInsider.
“When asked what the company learned from the launch of the Xoom tablet, Jha said that tablet price points had ‘moved much faster’ than Motorola had expected,” Ong reports. “The company had trouble matching the price of its entrenched competitor, Apple’s iPad. During the keynote, Jha deemphasized the tablet market, remarking that Motorola remains focused on the smartphone. ‘As important as tablet is, I continue to believe that smartphones are much more important as a computing device,’ he said.”
MacDailyNews Take: Because you can’t compete and the derivative OS you use is about to either cost you and/or cause your products to be pulled off store shelves – not to mention suffers from horrible AppLack™.
Ong reports, “Jha candidly said that Motorola is ‘completely open to the notion of Windows as a platform,’ despite the fact that all of the company’s focus is currently on Android. Android is ‘the ecosystem that we’re proud to be a part of,’ he said. ‘We’re not leading the charge with Windows 8, but as we become comfortable that that’s a viable ecosystem…we might consider it,’ Jha said.”
MacDailyNews Take: Jha sees the writing on the wall.

MacDailyNews Take: You can’t match what Apple offers without your own OS and, even then, as HP, RIM, Nokia, and others prove daily, you can’t match what Apple offers.
Agressive form factor? Does it have lots of sharp edges?
Damn you. Smart AND fast.
Brilliant!
The tablet blows up after a short period of normal use.
That way Motorola can claim that their sales have exploded.
It is shaped like a shuriken (ninja star)…
Aggressive form factor = Rough edges
Can’t… stop… yawning…
I prefer my form factors to be benevolent and useful than aggressive.
Not sure how you can differentiate with tablets. These companies need to start investing in killer software apps to build brand equity.
The fear is palatable.
And palpable!
I think you meant palpable.
I don’t know, their fear tastes pretty good to me!-)
I knew something was wrong with that.
I still can’t figure out what aggressive form factor means (apart from being silly in its connotation). Does he mean different sized and powered models?
Windows 8? Hahahaah…the cracks in Android support are starting to show. Yes people, we will dump Android like a flash (pun intended) when Apple finally pulls the patent rug out from under its feet.
It means thin and attractive 10″ display. But it probably ends up being a slavish copy of iPad aesthetics.
Aggressive form factor… I had a vision of the innovative MS Compliance feature. Upon first booting up users will “experience” the patented gorilla arms gripping them by the short hairs and the disembodied voice of the Balmer demanding “Where do you want to go today? WHERE? We DON’T GO THERE!” The onus is on the user to provide the correct response to proceed further (or for immediate relief).
Actually, it’s kinda like the death grip MS maintains on it’s vassals in the world of business doncha think?.
I was intrigued by Microsoft’s double sided tablet display called Courier but then they cancelled it. And then it would not have an Apple OS which is a non-starter. I would call that more aggressive though. I think Samsung has filed for a patent for this, something else they did not originate with.
Simple: agressive form factor = anyone who buys it gets bit in the butt…
Was the Xoom not aggressive enough? What’s aggression in Motorola’s books? Digging a 6′ hole instead of a 4′ hole to bury your products?
“…Jha said that tablet price points had ‘moved much faster’ than Motorola had expected.”
What’s moved? Apple’s iPad has been 500 bucks since day one.
Unfortunately for Motorola, the XOOM 2 will be blocked by an injunction before it can hit the shelves. This ain’t 1985 and Apple ain’t run by a soda-pop salesman anymore.
Knowing Microsoft, their “aggressive” form factor probably means their tablet will be round.
Ummmm, meant Motorola. So similar to Microsoft it’s easy to swap their names.
More assdroid heads are exploding at the clear hint Motorola will abandon Android for Windows.
Did you also see today Apple filed for a permanent injunction against Motorola too?
Hey there are still other Android manufacturers…
Sic em Apple!
Clearly! Just as the news came about injunction against Samsung, and the request for injunction against Motorola, they are now ‘candidly’ saying about the possible viability of the Windows platform…
They clearly have to hedge their bets here. I can’t imagine how difficult it may be to lead a company with so much uncertainty behind their core business…
Hands Predrag a red button marked ‘NUCLEAR DETONATOR.’ Checks lead that runs to platform holding the world’s supply of Galaxy Tabs, Xooms & PlayBooks.
Steps back and says, “Be my guest.”
Apple is proactive.
The competition is all reactive—and with short half-lives.
I like their agressive form factor strategy. I like it a lot.
Ouch. Bandaid?
Jha said, “Android is an eco-system”
If I know anything about eco-systems, it is that they are small systems that co-depend on each other to form a larger system. Apple works as en eco-system. Android is definitely not an eco-system unless you consider the crabgrass as part of your garden.
Maybe the tablet will be in the shape of a Big L.
Boomerang shape.
Motorola’s tablet will be in the form of a gun so that those dumb enough to buy it can shoot themselves when they realize what a pathetic choice they’ve just made.
Agressive form factor is another way of saying arbitrarily designed case.
He had been assured by his managers Android and Xoom would be bestsellers. After dismal sales he beat them over the head with the tablet. Hence “agressive form factor”. Now the term is used as a subtle reminder to his minions not to f-up again.
Aggressive form factor = Thinner, lighter and able to run through an entire charge far faster than an iPad.
“Thinner, lighter and able to run through an entire charge far faster “, sounds like some prostitute describing a client.
I got it the new Android form factor is that it looks like a limp DICK
Jha said that his company is planning to roll out tablets with ‘aggressive form factors’.
Motorola will out innovate Apple with higher plane specs!
We will be see Motorola’s tetrahedron model, the dodecahedron model, the icosahedron model.
Take that, Apple!
His best bet would be to go back to making Razr
