What to expect from Apple’s next-gen iPad

“We’ve seen dozens of tablets hit the market this year, all of them furiously trying to compete with [Apple’s iPad],” Clayton Morris reports for FOX News. “The problem is that they are only just catching up with where the iPad started. None of them, in my opinion, surpass the iPad in functionality or finesse, and certainly not in apps. So when the iPad II hits the market, it could very easily put this year’s tablets yet another year behind.”

“The guts in the new iPad will be speedy, with Apple’s rumored next-generation A5 processor,” Morris reports. “With all of this speed, you’d think battery life might be compromised. Guess again. My sources at Apple assure me that this is not the case. The iPad is notorious for under-promising and over-delivering on battery life. I get upwards of 12 hours per charge. With increased performance, it will be an impressive feat for the battery life to remain constant.”

Morris writes, “Then there’s the price. I don’t think Apple will significantly drop the cost of this gadget the way the company did with the original iPhone. Apple has proven that the price is already right, after all. It sells. A lot.”

  1. I can see a $50-100 drop across the line with a massive markdown on the first gen iPad a la iPhone 3GS. Speaking of which, can you even imagine how many iPhone 4’s Apple will sell (after the release of iPhone 5) if they mark it down even to just $99?

    It boggles the mind.

  2. Oh, and furthermore, you know you have really scrapped through the absolute bottom of the double bottomed barrel when you resort to quoting Fox News in matters concerning Apple products. Good job.

  3. think about it, white case, faster cpu, all this news about lion right before it comes out.
and speaking of lion, multitouch, auto save, app store, full screen apps………
    macpad? maybe? 😀

  4. I love my iPad 1 and I think I’ll wait a while before upgrading. I am still blown away by the battery life of my iPad; I don’t think twice about charging my iPad overnight then in the morning putting it straight in my bag without the charger.

The iPad 2 is going to be awesome, I can’t wait to try one out.

  5. I hope they make a smaller version. The first gen just feels too large in my hands compared to the smaller Android tabs.

I hate to say it, but for “me”, I like the smaller size.

    1. Smaller tablets DOA they aren’t right for the user. But sure listen to android and not Steve Jobs see how it ends up because I think I know the winner of this 9″ v 7″ tablet battle. Keep in mind that a 7 incher is 40% smaller.

      1. Not right for which user exactly? I think I said it was the right size for “me”, I’m a user. And I’m not listening to anyone, Android or Steve Jobs. If you read what you replied to you’ll notice that I said; “for “me”, I like the smaller size”. Did you notice the “me” part…in quotes to emphasize that it was “my” opinion?

I have an iPad, “I” however like the smaller size of the Galaxy Tab. “I” prefer it, it feels better in “my” hands. My iPad just feels a little too big to “me”. “I” hope that a smaller iPad comes out, “I” will sell my 1st gen iPad and switch to the smaller size…because it is what “I” want.

I’m not attacking or second guessing Apple, or Steve Jobs or whichever tit you suckle. I’m certainly not saying that Android is better than iOS (though Android isn’t that bad). I’m just expressing “my” view. Your view is apparently handed out to you with the kool-aid.

        1. A slightly smaller size wouldn’t be a bad idea. It would end up being the same resolution, and have a higher DPI. Biggest thing for me is the weight. Make it lighter, give it a slightly smaller bezel, and dual-cameras… and the rest is just gravy.

        2. Totally agree. Remove the huge bezel, make it lighter in weight and it would be perfect. The screen could actually remain the same size even so long as a few inches of bezel were removed around the entire screen.

People like iPadaway just can’t think different. They can only think what they’ve been told to think. I’m certain they hated Intel until Steve told them Intel proc’s were the bees knees.

Then, when Apple does announce a smaller version of the iPad; he’ll try to make it seem like it was his idea…lol.

  6. Apple do not compete on price. Period.

Think about it, they created the tablet PC market, are the Market leader by a million miles do you honestly think they will reduce the price?

If you think they will you dont know apple.

Apple will only reduce the price of the original ipad, and that will be the top end model and that reduction will only happen to get entry level people onto an ipad. If the price reduction happens it won’t be on the ipad 2 only on a model of ipad 1 that apple has decided to keep in the lineup (eg iPod classic).

So don’t expect any discounts on the 2nd.
