“Google Inc., the world’s largest search engine, is developing a beta version of its fascinating Google Earth geographical satellite imagery and mapping application for Apple Computer’s Mac OS X operating system,” Prince McLean reports for AppleInsider. “The application asks users to type in an address and will then ‘fly’ the user from space to the address through satellite imagery. Users can then zoom in on the aerial satellite view of the search location, view buildings and landscapes, and tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings.”
“Earlier this month, a pre-release version of Google Earth for Mac OS X that uses OpenGL rendering reportedly began making the rounds overseas. The 40MB application packs a hefty set of preferences, allowing users to tweak detail and color, and control the speed of their ‘flights,'” McLean reports.

awesome! There seems to be alot of things happening in the Apple world again
I can’t find the Earth with both hands and a mirror.
Thank you Google!
I loved Google Earth (and Keyhole before it) on Windows and I’m verry happy to learn GE comming to Mac is not only a promise but a reality!
YAY!! google earth kicks ass, cant wait
about time! I love using this on my friend’s PC…once a mac OS version reaches us all I don’t know how I’ll pry myself away from this thing — it’s really a cool program. Go google!
Yay yay yay YAY!!!
All I can say is……. patience pays off sometimes it seems. For so long I’ve waited thinking that it was like “the check is in the mail”.
YAY!
Maybe one day we can have simultaneous orgasms instead of this you first and me next of google earth and call of duty 2. Oh well, better late than never; better in time than late; even better if we all Come Together [don’t look for that in iTMS].
Oh … thanky-you google. Next time we can do frantic tantric together, eh?
GE really is cool. When you get it, check out the guy taking a whiz off Hoover dam.
NOT kidding.
Why aren’t there any people with these maps.
Ugh Google really need to hire some good app designers cause it looks like crap. It looks so circa 2002!
Will it utilize CORE GRAPHICS or is that not applicable here?
No. At this time, due to technical limitations, it is impossible to view the Earth’s core via satellite imagery.
SHIP it already!
Where can we download the beta?
I have been writing and bugging them about this for awhile now. Maybe a few more letters can speed up the results. Google Earth is absolutely to me the only thing that a PC has over the Mac and hopefully that is about to change. Lots of demand from the growing Mac community cannot hurt Google’s incentive to develop this program.
About friggin’ time! I checked out local.live.com and I have to admit that Microsoft has an excellent competitive map service in beta. The pictures are sharper and closer to the ground than Google’s. Navigating was a bit buggy but it has promise. Fresh competition from Microsoft! Who da thunk it?
You can already use a version of Google earth on the mac here:

All’s I can say is thanks Google for thinking about us Mac users.
