Apple has created a revamped Mac OS X Downloads section of Apple.com which also features new Dashboard Widgets, Automator Actions, and Spotlight Plugins download sections.
• Dashboard Widgets section here
• Automator Actions section here
• Spotlight Plugins section here.
Ooooh.
OS X. The OS That keeps on giving.
Ya know, in case anyone is wondering, Tiger is a whole lot faster than Panther.
Make it 201 new features.
Let the fun begin. I have been using the Tiger for last 4 days .. Ummm delicious.
Ever industrious AppleScripter Doug Adams has also just released a seven piece compilation of his own Automator Actions for iTunes. No doubt Apple Downloads won’t take long to pick it up, but until they do, it’s available at http://www.dougscripts.com.

Man, that Transmit FTP widget is going to be my most used widget.
I bet within 6 months someone will have written a Windows engine to run OSX widgets – as they’re all open-standards based it wouldn’t be difficult would it!

I bet within 6 months someone will have written a copy of Windows in an OSX Widget.
Tommo: it’s already been done. It’s called Konfabulator. But it just doesn’t work as well as Dashboard, it hogs resources and it’s less easy to write widgets for. But then what did you expect from Windows?
Ahh, ok. These guys are smart.
Windows as a platform makes PC usable and attractive to buy. That’s why Gates takes alot of credit for the PC industry (a PC on every desk, etc)
Dashboard is a platform INSIDE an OS, so it’s like a ton of free software, which will push Tiger sales.
Interesting… I’m looking at already 45 widgets on the first day, and all of them are VERY cool, some sexy looking widgets and brilliantly useful too..
Thurrott doesn’t understand what Dashboard is for.. the point is that these widgets are too limited in functionality to actually be apps. they’re not apps. Apps create files. These do not output files, they are like little helper apps.
At VersionTracker, our Widgets category is live:

As is our category for Tiger-compatible updates:

I’d say that Tiger is They’re Gr-r-reat! But I don’t want Apple to be sued by another company. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
i don’t want to sound lame.. esp since i just finished a $2.1M network two months ago… but how in the fsck do you put new widgets into the widget drawer? There’s no obvious or unobvious way i’ve been able to tell… my new widgets are under ~/Library/Widgets.. but that doesn’t do just squat.
They automatically are added after you download them!
