Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26.6.2, a security-focused update for the current generation of its desktop operating system. The update became available on August 17, 2026, via Software Update in System Settings on compatible Macs.

macOS Tahoe (version 26) is the major release that succeeded macOS Sequoia. The 26.6.2 point update delivers security fixes that were first made available in the macOS Golden Gate 27 beta. Apple’s release notes describe it simply as providing security fixes for the Mac, with no new user-facing features.

The security content addresses multiple vulnerabilities across components including Audio, ImageIO, IOGPUFamily, the Kernel, and WebKit. Issues fixed include potential information leaks, denial-of-service conditions, arbitrary code execution risks from processing images, memory corruption from malicious web content, unexpected system terminations, and various Safari crashes or data leaks from crafted web content. Apple lists numerous CVEs for the update (reports indicate around 28).

This release follows closely after macOS Tahoe 26.6 and the subsequent 26.6.1 security update. Apple has been issuing relatively frequent point releases in the Tahoe cycle as it prepares for the next major version, macOS Golden Gate (27), which is expected later in 2026 and will drop support for remaining Intel-based Macs.

MacDailyNews Note: Users are encouraged to install the update promptly through System Settings > General > Software Update. As with previous releases, the update is recommended for all macOS Tahoe users to maintain protection against the addressed vulnerabilities. Full security details are available on Apple’s support site here.
