Apple has rolled out a timely update to its free Apple Sports app, adding support for seven additional soccer leagues from across Europe and Asia. The refresh comes just one day after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Argentina defeated Spain in the final.
Version 4.2 of the iPhone-only app now includes the following leagues:
• Belgian Pro League (Belgium)
• Superliga (Denmark)
• Eredivisie (Netherlands)
• J1 League (Japan)
• Ekstraklasa (Poland)
• Scottish Premiership (Scotland)
• Swiss Super League (Switzerland)
In addition to the new league support, users can now view team formations for matches across most soccer leagues in the app. This feature provides a clearer look at starting lineups and tactical setups, enhancing the experience for fans who want deeper insights into games.
The Apple Sports app, first launched in 2024, has steadily broadened its soccer offerings in recent months. Earlier updates added content tied to the 2026 World Cup, including team groupings and national team tracking with real-time scores, stats, and Live Activities. The app already covers dozens of top leagues and tournaments across multiple regions. This latest expansion continues Apple’s push to make the app a comprehensive hub for sports scores, standings, and match details without requiring a subscription. It remains exclusive to iPhone and is rolling out now to users worldwide.
MacDailyNews Take: Fans have already begun commenting on the update via Apple’s App Store and social media, with some requesting further additions like U.S. lower-division leagues. As soccer’s global popularity continues to grow, especially in the wake of a record 48-team World Cup, Apple appears committed to keeping the app competitive with dedicated sports platforms. The update is available immediately via the App Store here.
