Apple is gaining market share in personal computers and smartphones, thanks in part to its MacBook Neo notebook and iPhone 17 handsets, according to new research reports.
Patrick Seitz for Investor’s Business Daily:
Research firm Gartner on Friday reported that Apple’s worldwide PC market share rose to 10.6% in the first quarter, vs. 9.8% in the year-earlier period. It is the fourth largest PC vendor behind Lenovo, HP, and Dell, but it posted the fastest growth last quarter.
“Apple grew 12.7% year over year, which was the largest jump among the major vendors,” Gartner analyst Rishi Padhi said in a news release. “This performance was primarily driven by robust demand for the MacBook Neo, particularly among new Mac users and buyers in the education sector.”
Elsewhere on Friday, Counterpoint Research reported that Apple’s global smartphone market share rose to 21% in the first quarter from 19% from Q1 2025. Its unit shipments rose 5% in the first quarter, while the overall market fell 6%. Further, Apple was the top vendor worldwide in the first quarter, Counterpoint said in a news release.
“Continuous strong demand for the iPhone 17 series and aggressive trade-in programs, along with ecosystem stickiness, drove overall volume growth despite a softer macro environment,” Counterpoint said. “The brand experienced notably stronger growth in several key Asia-Pacific markets, such as China, India and Japan, highlighting robust demand for iPhones and effective strategies in these high-potential markets.”
