Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has arrived in Tokyo for his first official visit since December 2022. During the trip, Cook is touring Apple’s newly renovated store in Ginza, the company’s first international physical store. Cook highlighted on social media the reopening as a significant milestone in Apple’s journey in Japan, symbolizing strong ties with Japanese customers and communities.

GuruFocus:

Despite the celebrations, Apple’s influence in Japan faces challenges. Due to the weakened yen, Japan accounts for only 6% to 8% of Apple’s sales.

Additionally, the company’s market share for iPhones in Japan dropped by 6.4 percentage points year-on-year, settling at 46.4% in the second quarter of this year.

MacDailyNews Take: Apple’s strong new iPhone lineup and the new Apple Ginza retail store in Tokyo will help reinvigorate iPhone’s market share in Japan.

Time to innovate step aside before you kill the golden goose

  2. I visit Japan twice a year. At the train, bus and subway stations virtually every smart phone you see is an iPhone. This holds true whether young or old. You never see a young person with something other than an iPhone which makes me wonder who will be buying Androids in the future.
