Apple TV+’s breakout hit series “Severance” achieved a significant milestone, reaching a new weekly viewership high of 876 million minutes during its Season 2 finale for the week of March 17-23, 2025, according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
This performance secured the series’ first-ever placement in Nielsen’s “Overall” Top 10, a notable feat for an Apple TV+ original, given the platform’s smaller reach compared to competitors like Netflix. On Nielsen’s “Originals” rankings, “Severance” placed 4th.
In March, unsurprisingly, Apple renewed “Severance” for season 3:
Throughout Season 2, “Severance” consistently ranked in the “Originals” Top 10, but the finale’s surge underscores its growing cultural impact and loyal fanbase. The series, a dystopian thriller exploring memory separation at the fictional Lumon Industries, resonated strongly with adult viewers, boasting the highest concentration of 18-49-year-olds (71%) among original series.
The finale’s success, coupled with critical acclaim and buzz from stars like Adam Scott and Patrica Arquette, has solidified “Severance” as Apple TV+’s most-watched series, surpassing “Ted Lasso.” With over 6.4 billion streaming minutes across Season 2, the show’s momentum suggests a bright future, with Season 3 already in development.
MacDailyNews Take: “Severance” is a tour de force.
“Severance,” if you haven’t yet seen it, is beautifully shot and extremely well-acted. It’s a compelling, thought-provoking series – highly recommended. – MacDailyNews, March 29, 2022
