South Korean dishwasher maker Samsung is once again copying Apple, this time with a Vision Pro knockoff codenamed “Project Moohan” (rhymes with Wuhan), the first headset designed for Alphabet subsidiary Google’s Android XR, itself a knockoff of visionOS. The name “Moohan”, meaning “infinity” in Korean, connotes Samsung’s “belief in delivering immersive experiences within an infinite space.” Samsung promises its Fake Vision Pro will be “equipped with state-of-the-art displays, Passthrough capabilities and natural multi-modal input” in “lightweight, ergonomically optimized hardware designed to ensure maximum comfort during use.”

Samsung:

“XR has quickly shifted from a distant promise to a tangible reality. We believe it has the potential to unlock new and meaningful ways to interact with the world by truly resonating with your everyday lives, transcending physical boundaries,” said Won-Joon Choi, EVP and Head of R&D, Mobile eXperience Business. “We are excited to collaborate with Google to reshape the future of XR, taking our first step towards it with Project Moohan.”

“We are at an inflection point for the XR, where breakthroughs in multimodal AI enable natural and intuitive ways to use technology in your everyday life”, said Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem, Google. “We’re thrilled to partner with Samsung to build a new ecosystem with Android XR, transforming computing for everyone on next-generation devices like headsets, glasses and beyond.”

MacDailyNews Take: Samsung’s latest entry in its endless parade of half-assed Apple product knockoffs is expected to be peddled to the unwary in 2025. No official name (we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it were “Samsung Vision Pro”) or retail price have been disclosed.

  1. Based on early reviews it seems the differentiator of the integration of Gemini AI to the experience. At any point you can speak with Gemini to assist you or provide clarification or more details. Seems more like a leapfrog in tech that challenges Apple now to also leapfrog with their own AI efforts.

    1. Yes, but, but, but Samdung’s is cheaper! (Duh) free R&D from reverse engineering + patented IP from Apple & Google OS.
Time to go back to court again. $900M settle from Samsung to Apple did not teach them anything.
