HomePad: Apple’s display-equipped HomePod delayed again – Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple smart display

Apple’s highly anticipated HomePod with a built-in smart display has been delayed. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device is now expected to launch in the third quarter of 2025, pushing back the release timeline.

Ming-Chi Kuo via Medium:

The mass production schedule for the display-equipped HomePod has been delayed multiple times. Initially forecasted for 2024 (as I predicted in 2023), it was postponed to 1Q25, and more recently, further delayed to after WWDC 2025/3Q25.

The delay in production is mainly due to software development. The display-equipped HomePod is expected to feature an A18 processor, a 6–7 inch display, and support for the Apple Intelligence.

Compared to the current HomePod lineup, the display-equipped HomePod will emphasize smart home functionalities more. It can be seen as Apple’s strategic repositioning of the HomePod product line…

The display-equipped HomePod is expected to ship around 500,000 units in 2H25. If the market response is positive, this product’s annual shipments could reach the million-unit level.

MacDailyNews Take: HomePad keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’ into the future.

  1. Wow, this ain’t rocket science, y’all. What’s up, Apple?…

Honestly, I’m not really clear on what Apple’s goals are here with HomePod.

We’ve been waiting for truly intuitive Apple home automation with great software for a decade or more. I’m tired of yelling at Siri to play something on a HomePod a few feet away and then having the phone in my pocket “intelligently” decide that what I really wanted was music playing over my phone’s speaker. 🤯

    WTF? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Or, other than HomePod’s truly odd genius of letting us know the age of any famous person (try it), telling me it cannot answer a more relevant question unless I pull out my iPhone and see the info there? 😤

The faux design above looks super ugly. Dear Jobs, I pray it doesn’t look like that. Just use the circular top and put an actual screen running watchOS to get something out the door, right? It could flip up if we needed to see it. I’m not sure I need to see the screen. Do I? Mostly, I just want to see the volume + and – points so I can manually adjust the volume when voice commands fail…

I’ve got 5 HomePods, with 3 being mini’s, so yes, a dramatically improved Home.app would be much appreciated. And on both iOS and MacOS, will full access to controlling the volume on all 4 or 5 as they blast away in the house?

Is the entire HomePod team like three people? Sure feels like it…

Seriously, as old as the HomePod is, this ain’t rocket science.

  2. The market is beating AAPL. I’m starting to think about “The Lindy Effect.” I read elsewhere; a person was getting BlackBerry vibes. That’s a little excessive, but the fact it came to mind is interesting, at least. Meanwhile Cook again sanctimoniously says AAPL will be remembered by forays into “Health.” Yes, the A-Watch has valuable features, but they are parochial and a fraction of AAPL’s output. I bet in a survey, the VAST majority of respondents would NOT list “Health” as Apple’s top, or 2nd/3rd accomplishment?

  3. And this company was going to make a “car”? It can’t make a decent wireless speaker with a display attached for FaceTime. Maybe they should just try Duct Tape. Of course, they would have to have non-white gay dancers doing the commercials.
