Display expert Ross Young on Thursday revealed that Apple used a quantum dot (QD) film instead of a red KSF phosphor film on its new MacBook Pro display.

In the past, Apple went with the KSF solution due to better efficiency and lack of cadmium (Cd), but the latest Cd-free QD films are very efficient, feature as good or better color gamut and better motion performance.

This is awesome.
Quantum Dot technology is likely to be the “next big thing” in solar panel technology in the next few years, so the better we get at manufacturing quantum dot displays the easier and faster it should be to use the same or similar tech to produce much much higher efficiency solar panels in the near future,
It’s hardly a moral win for Apple but it’s awesome for the planet that people are investing in this technology either way!
