Apple preps iOS 18.0.1 bug fix update

Available today, iOS 18 offers new ways to personalize iPhone with deeper customization to the Home Screen and Control Center, the biggest-ever redesign to Photos, and the introduction of Apple Intelligence.
iOS 18.0.1

There are indications that Apple is currently testing iOS 18.0.1 internally. This discovery was made based on evidence of the software update appearing in MacRumors’ website’s analytics this week. These analytics have a history of accurately predicting the release of various iOS versions through its logs.

Joe Rossignol for MacRumors:

We expect iOS 18.0.1 to be a minor update focused on bug fixes. Issues that could be addressed with the update include touchscreen issues affecting the iPhone 16 series and some older models, an iMessage bug where a shared Apple Watch face can cause the app to repeatedly crash, and iPadOS 18 bricking some iPad Pro units with the M4 chip.

It is unclear when iOS 18.0.1 will be released, but our best guess is the update will be available towards the end of next week at the latest.

  1. Well, I was all set to post a glowing review of my 7-day-old iPhone 16 Pro when the camera app started freezing and crashing. Restarting the phone is the only thing that fixes it (till it happens again…). The last time it happened, I almost could not force the phone to shut down. 😾

Reddit had some folks in the iOS beta group with similar issues (I don’t run any beta on my stuff anymore), but otherwise, there didn’t seem to be much online.

So, I caved. I got into a chat box with Apple.

[Sigh] I don’t know why I think those are ever going to go well… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same old thing where I spend the first 10-15 minutes trying to convince them that I’m a crusty old recovering Apple tech and just wanted to know if there’s an update coming out to iOS 18 for the obvious bug fix. I kept asking if he’d just ask around and hear what other techs were hearing and if nothing else, when an update was coming out.

He ran a remote diagnostic on my phone, and software and hardware all passed.

Like most of these calls, I finally gave up and realized he wasn’t going to solve anything for me. A waste of time.

I wish the Apple chat box guys were as good and fast as the Amazon ones. The latter are clearly only working with one person (you), and the “latency” issues with remote Apple techs indicate they’re at least working with 2, if not 3.

I really hope this update fixes my freezing, crashing camera app…
