Display shipment reports from inside Apple’s supply chain could indicate an impending launch of the new M4 MacBook Pro lineup.
Malcolm Owen for AppleInsider:
According to a now-deleted post to X by Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young on Thursday, panel shipments started in July and August for the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Young adds that a Q4 launch for the M4-equipped models “makes sense” based on these shipments. This is a fairly good assumption, given the months-long component lead time for a MacBook Pro refresh.
The analyst’s comments also give hope to other Mac models also getting their fall updates, possibly in a September or October event.
MacDailyNews Take: A special media event that unveils the M4 MacBook Pro, all-new, tiny M4 Mac mini, and M4-powered iMacs would make for a huge Mac Christmas 2024!

well they need to move to the m5, but at least they will offer new hardware before school starts so parents can get their kids the latest and greatest before school starts.
It doesn’t sound like these will be released before school starts. I’ll bet they are released in October in time for the Christmas shopping season but not before the iPhone.
you know you would think after all these years they would stop dumping last years model on new college kids just to release something 2 months latter.
Amen, Bob…
lets get a multi processor M4 Mac desktop or iMac Pro. Give us the power to render and run generative AI on device.
I’m going to have a tough decision to make next year as to whether I should get a 16″ M3 Max MacBook Pro or a 16″ M4 Max MacBook Pro. I know the price of the M3 Max will likely drop quite a bit and I see that Apple Intelligence runs on an M3, so I’m leaning toward the M3 Max. I don’t need the processing power of the M4 but I’m waiting to see the price. Right now I’m using a fine-running mid-2015 MacBook Pro but I want to move all my Macs to Apple Silicon and test out their power. It’s overkill for my usage but I’m going to splurge for once.
If you keep your MacBooks for 10 years, as you said you have a mid 2015 and plan on replacing it in 2025, nothing is “overkill”. Ten years from then (2035) even run of the mill software will require the processing power of an M4 to be even remotely “snappy”, and that includes MacOS.
If you can afford it always get the latest and greatest when you upgrade if you’re the type that keeps your hardware for more than five years. That should be a hard, inviolate rule for those of us that don’t replace/upgrade our hardware every few years.
Are you saying wait and go with the M4 over the M3 price drop, the whole point of @Constable Odo’s post?
