Apple Intelligence is the personal artificial intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that combines the power of generative AI models with personal context to deliver intelligence that’s incredibly useful and relevant.
Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It harnesses the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks.
With Private Cloud Compute, Apple sets a new standard for AI privacy, with the ability to flex and scale computational capacity between on-device processing and larger, server-based models that run on dedicated Apple Silicon servers.
Here’s a look at a few key features.
1. ChatGPT integration
OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot function will be integrated into much of the workflow of Apple’s devices, as an opt-in option for when you need or want it.
This will allow users to answer questions, generate creative content or ask for help with writing or brainstorming ideas across a variety of Apple apps, including Siri, Mail or Pages.
2. AI-enhanced Siri
With Apple Intelligence, Apple’s personal assistant Siri will be able to see what’s stored in your apps and describe what’s on your screen, allowing you to make more complicated requests than what’s currently available.
3. AI-assisted writing tools
Apple users will have access to system-wide Writing Tools, a new built-in AI feature that will summarize, edit and proofread text on your behalf.
4. Image generation
Apple will introduce the Image Playground, an image-generating tool that will be available as a standalone app, as well as a built-in feature in other apps like Messages, Keynote and Freeform… Apple also announced “Genmoji,” which are custom-made emoji that can be shared in Messages.
5. Real-time call transcripts
In the Notes and Phone apps, users will be able to record, transcribe and summarize audio, marking the first time Apple devices have included a built-in feature for recording phone calls.

Doesn’t sound like you have to have a new iPhone or Mac to use Apple Intelligence.
Not going to boost sales then like the stock market thinks it will.
I would prefer it if Apple would just make their stuff work better. If AI can do that, then so be it, but I really have no immediate need to generate a picture of a shark eating a donut while riding a skateboard. Just the day-to-day stuff with less hassle would be great.
It seems to me like a choice: either build a better compass to make it work better or use GPS with sound and screen. Most would choose the latter because it is more convenient and offers more.
It’s more like making the GPS with sound and screen reliable and consistent instead of adding flashy graphics, emojis and features that aren’t nearly as important as the core functionality of the app.
Homekit for example has become so unreliable with accessories becoming unresponsive that I just bought a set of “dumb” plugs that I can turn on and off with a remote. The one I already have works 99.9% of the time, I might have to unplug and replug it once a year. Homekit gives me monthly problems without the slightest hint from Apple what the problem may be.
Nice humor, while hammering a simple truth…Apple has MANY loose strands and rough edges and, instead of tending to a healthy OS, Apple propels ITSELF into more distraction (stupid energy waste and mostly unwanted “features”) with emojis, Messages do-dads and feeding the tik-tok mind.
Hate to say it, but imagine not being able to type to Siri until 2024.
Biggest feature I want, is the ability to turn it off. Enough with this computer spying crap.
