WARNING: If your Mac is running macOS Sonoma 14.4 and you save documents to iCloud Drive and you have Optimize Mac Storage turned on, files that you save to iCloud Drive are at risk of losing all their saved versions.
In previous versions of macOS, when a file is evicted (‘Remove downloads’) from local storage in iCloud Drive, all its saved versions have been preserved. Download that file again from iCloud Drive, and versions saved on that Mac (but not other Macs or devices) have remained fully accessible. Do that in 14.4, and all previous versions are now removed, and lost forever.
From my previous testing, that certainly doesn’t happen in Ventura, and when I tested earlier in 14.3, that wasn’t what I observed either.
If you value the saved versions of your documents, either:
• don’t put them into iCloud Drive at all, or
• turn Optimise Mac Storage off, so they can’t be evicted from local storage.

It just works…oops, nevermind. Thanks Timmy!
Nobody fears Craig Federighi and it shows
New OS Sonoma 14.3.1 is TERRIBLE!
This new OS is the worst update Apple has released in a LONG time. It’s like these coders are making it worse, NOT better.
First off, ALL new options should be a CHOICE for users, NOT applied.
In the past 2 days I have wasted WAY too much time trying to figure out where a on/off option is hidden, and some re even gone all together.
Hiding the desktop is the dumbest feature to force on users. Let us CHOOSE that.
This auto saving everything feature sucks. We don’t need to auto save everything in life. And WHY is that option taken away from us? The code is too large and bulky on RAM.
I hope someone will revisit these forced changes on people, who don’t want them. Let us work. Without iCloud up our butts on everything.
Unhappy with new OS!
It’s a feature, not a bug. After all, your storage is optimised when there’s no data present
