The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan bill on Wednesday that would give TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance about six months to divest its U.S. assets of the platform, or face an American ban.
U.S. officials warn TikTok’s management is beholden to the Chinese government. For example, China could use the social media app to influence the 2024 U.S. elections, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines told a House of Representatives intelligence committee hearing this week.
The Department of Justice recently warned lawmakers that because ByteDance is headquartered in Beijing, TikTok’s American users are at risk because “foreign governments like the PRC (China) that are known for their surveillance and censorship.”
Officials in both [major] political parties have raised red flags about TikTok along with other issues ranging from connected vehicles to advanced artificial intelligence chips to cranes at U.S. ports.
If passed by the Senate in its current form and signed into law… it is unclear whether China would approve any sale or if TikTok’s U.S. assets could be divested in six months.
If ByteDance failed to do so, app stores operated by Apple, Alphabet’s Google, and others could not legally offer TikTok or provide web hosting services to ByteDance-controlled applications.
In theory the ban would make it difficult, if not impossible, for users to access TikTok in the U.S.

Prevent the CCP from buying American farmland, especially near our military installations.
Shoot down Chinese spy balloons floating over our country and military installations.
Keep CCP from having any control over our water or energy or communications infrastructure.
Don’t shift our industrial base to China.
Don’t allow China to hold a meaningful portion of our national debt.
Don’t allow CCP to influence American universities with billions of dollars.
Not allow thousands of Chinese citizens cross our southern border.
Keep Chinese citizens and CCP agents out of our medical, scientific, and R&D facilities.
Not fund their bio labs with American tax dollars or cover up for their releasing a killer viruses on the world, purposely or by accident.
Fire General Miley for telling his CCP counterpart that he would warn him if Trump was going to take action against China.
Don’t push EVs while we are dependent on China for battery materials.
Don’t bind America with Green Energy agenda while China is building coal refineries and nuclear power plants.
Stop deflating the American $ via debt and printing money to ensure it continues to be used for international trade rather than Chinese currency which some countries are shifting to.
All of these are more strategic than banning an app. If the app is so dangerous, do public service announcements demonstrating how it’s hurting Americans so people can choose.

Any data on Americans the CCP wants is already available on the open market. It’s much more cost effective to simply buy on the open market the curated data from the countless companies already gathering it, like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and many many others.

compare the “TikTok” USA version vs TikTok(Douyin) CCP version. TikTok is so brain numbing that CCP blocks TikTok in China. While the USA version teaches transgender promotion and Twerking for kids in the USA, The Chinese version (Douyin) of TikTok teaches kids national pride and citizenship. The CCP enacted a law in 2022 that outlaw the promotion of feminization of male role models. Again if TikTok is so harmless then why is it band in China, and another question why does apple still promoted TikTok on the front page of the App Store as an essential app ? Who side is Apple really on ? What about Tim saying Apple’s main directive now is to “make the world a better place then we found it” Is Apple’s world making agenda really about making the world a better place for CCP control. Tim needs to show proper leadership shadow band and demote TikTok with at least a warning label.
