Stock market sells off, big tech tumbles after Russia attacks Ukraine

Stocks tumbled Thursday as some of the biggest U.S. tech stocks weren’t spared in the major stock market selloff as the markets reacted to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Apple, Microsoft, and other Big Tech led the market selloff with futures that track the Nasdaq 100, which consists of the largest constituents in the tech heavy Nasdaq Composite index, indicating an open lower of 3.2%.

If the index opens that low, it would bring its decline so far this year to more than 20%. It would also signal the start of a bear market for tech stocks for the first time in nearly two more years, with the Nasdaq 100 more than 20% lower from its recent high in mid-November.

Apple stock was down 4.4% in premarket trading, with Microsoft shares falling 3.3%. Others in Big Tech like Google parent Alphabet, Amazon.com, Netflix, Nvidia, and Facebook parent Meta Platforms notched similar premarket declines.

          President Trump’s discussion of Ukraine primarily focused on the fact that Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if he were still president.

          President Trump: I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, “This is genius.” Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So, Putin is now saying, “It’s independent,” a large section of Ukraine. I said, “How smart is that?” And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force… We could use that on our southern border. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re gonna keep peace all right.

          No, but think of it. Here’s a guy who’s very savvy… I know him very well. Very, very well. By the way, this never would have happened with us. Had I been in office, not even thinkable. This would never have happened. But here’s a guy that says, you know, “I’m gonna declare a big portion of Ukraine independent,” he used the word “independent,” “and we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.” You gotta say that’s pretty savvy. And you know what the response was from Biden? There was no response. They didn’t have one for that. No, it’s very sad.

          So, what you have here is the typical liars’ method of taking a sarcastic remark by President Trump and pretending it wasn’t. We’ve seen this for years. It’s tired. Standard Democrat playbook. Thinking people see through it and have always seen through it.

          President Trump is being sarcastic about the idea of “Russian peacekeepers,” and saying that it’s sad that Biden has been played by a savvy Putin. President Trump is saying that would have never happened if he were in the White House.

          Anyone who claims Trump was “praising” Putin is either a liar, a fool, or too lazy to read/listen to what Trump actually said.

        2. RW: That’s the $100,000 question. The US is not quite btwn a rock and a hard place, but almost. It’s an almost “no-brainer” to conclude there was at least some collusion btwn Russ and Chna and acting simultaneously on the advent of weakness, was logical.
          With the statement of nonchalance ok’g, “small incursion” and from one with damaged cognition and inexperienced framework (VP & below), the stars seemed to be aligned, or aligning for disruption.

          Europe aligning with the US AND Ukraine to counter one providing existential energy? Germany to say “yes” to cutting off their main flow? The remainder of Europe coming to the aid of a “Russian vassal” and motivated by a US head of state that feels more at home in his PJs and a hot toddy?

          Protect Taiwan? How? Australia and Japan are to assist in maintaining their sovereignty because of “chips” and the World’s love of GDP as the “good life” measurement? These countries are essential to limit the abscontion of their freedom. Will they move?

Thanks to poor regulation, millions of Americans are locked to local “in network” health providers, employers, or they have no coverage and rely on taxpayer funded emergency room visits.         The best nations have implemented systems where basic universal health outcomes can be guaranteed regardless of a citizen’s wealth or age or employer or place of residence. There is still a market for Cadillac insurance and healthcare for those who want it. How is this bad?????????

In your country you can expect an ambulance to rush you to a hospital when you have an emergency, without you needing to pay the driver before he picks you up. You recall, the day he stopped the US oil production. Four months later Putin stated his intension to bring Ukraine back into the motherland. Next it will be Belarus, then Georgia.
