Trump administration: TikTok buyer will not be able to transfer data from American soil to Chinese servers

As the deadline looms for Chinese technology company ByteDance to sell off its popular video platform TikTok to an American company, sources familiar with negotiations have told FOX Business‘ Liz Claman that the battle between Microsoft and Oracle is a “tighter horse race that, for now, Microsoft has by a nose.”

Director of trade and manufacturing policy Peter Navarro, however, did not confirm or deny any new information related to the negotiations, only telling the “Claman Countdown” on Wednesday that the Trump administration is doing everything in its power to prevent whoever buys TikTok from handing over Americans’ data to the Chinese government.

“The one thing we want to be sure of, and we will be sure of in this administration, is that whoever buys it will not be able to transfer data from American soil to Chinese servers,” Navarro said. “That’s the full stop.”

While Microsoft continues to appear to be the top bidder, the company has recently come under scrutiny for its close relationship with China, which Navarro noted as a major difference from competitor Oracle with respect to national security.

“If you look at Microsoft versus Oracle, I think the one thing that separates the two companies with respect to national security is that Microsoft has a very large footprint in China. Its software is used by the People’s Liberation Army, by the Chinese Communist Party. Bing, its internet server, is the only American one that’s over there,” Navarro said. “Oracle, on the other hand, has a strong reputation of really putting a great firewall between its operations and China.”

MacDailyNews Take: So, regardless of who ends up buying TikTok’s business in U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with no two-way data sharing, how will TikTok be a unified social network? Or, will TikTok cleave into two regional, separate networks – U.S./Canada/Australia/New Zealand TikTok versus China-based Bytedance’s “Rest of the World (but notably banned in India)” TikTok?

    1. Incompetent administration cares so much about your security that instead of passing privacy and info protection laws that apply to ALL companies worldwide, the dumb orange tweety in chief pointedly goes off mob style on the one company that facilitated people to make fun of orange idiot political rallies.

Apple has done practically nothing to aid the end user to identify what data iOS apps take, and where that data goes. Chyyyyyna or otherwise.

      1. Voting for Biden because you don’t like Trump is like easting dog shit became you don’t like broccoli.

If you assume that I am a racist for supporting Trump, I will assume you touch children because you support Biden

    1. you say this on the fanboy site of a mega corporation that uses Asian labor exclusively

you should worry more about what people can do under the law more than the soil location where one was born or where the company headquarters sits

of course you would also have to understand that no mob boss order against one foreign company is going to accomplish anything. privacy laws need to be drafted and passed by congress and the gop has spent decades obstructing that. their campaign donors made money by outsourcing labor since Dick Crook Nixon opened Chyna for outsourcing

      1. Not all Asian labor is the same. TSMC is Taiwan. Taiwan is the historical legacy of the Qing dynasty. Taiwan is a democracy with free elections, freedom of speech and progressive rights. TSMC is the major manufacture of Apple processors and leads TSMC leads the world in robotic manufacturing. Apple is using TSMC for 5nm next generation silicon. Donald Trump help brought a TSMC factory to USA soil. Donald Trump’s administration sold Taiwan serious bad ass military hardware for the defense of Taiwan against the CCP aggression.

Bottom line is Donald Trump has stood up to the CCP China when its very unpopular. If the president was motivated by money and power then he would have sold us out to the CCP like the past Presidents did. (Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush2, Obama/Biden all sold out the interest of the American people for the CCP) China has much more wealth then Taiwan and they would gladly give Trump short term wealth for long term gain. Heck Hunter Biden’s company made out with a 1.2 Billion dollar loan from the bank of China. China is open for business if you are willing to sale out the USA.

Trump stands up to the CCP. We all know Benji Biden will sale us our to CCP China. again.

The CCP is waiting until after the ejection before they invade Taiwan. Hong Kong was a test. Stand with the democracy of China, Stand with Taiwan Vote Trump

  1. Election year political theater to divert attention away from 30 million unemployment recipients, 40 million without health insurance, etc…………..

I remember in 2016 when candidate Trump regularly vowed to curtail H-1B worker visas, primarily from India, favored by Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc. A few months in office, he expanded the limit by 15K.

BTW, I haven’t voted for a democrat for President in twenty years.
