Apple Watch offers special Thanksgiving Activity achievement: Do a 5K on November 24 to earn unique award, Messages sticker

“Apple Watch owners can get a special Activity Challenge for Thanksgiving, this November 24th,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac. “Apple Watch owners are waking up to notifications on their wrist announcing a special achievement in the Activity app, the first time Apple has done this.”

To receive the reward, Apple Watch users must complete a run, walk or wheelchair 5K (3.11 miles) on November 24th using Apple’s Workout app or any third-party app that integrates workouts with HealthKit (such as Nike+ Run Club].

“If users do this, they will receive a unique Achievement medal in their iPhone Activity app and a special iMessage sticker to send to their friends,” Mayo reports. “This kind of contextual achievement is brand new to watchOS; although the facility to do Activity Challenges has existed in watchOS for a while, this is the first time the feature has been used.”

MacDailyNews Take: Oh, alright, we’ll bang out a quick 5K on Thanksgiving morning wearing our Apple Watch Nike+ units, of course!

    1. I haven’t run in a couple of years and something like this would actually help get me off of my fat ass. Can’t wait to get an Apple Watch after the holidays! I’m all for promos like this.

        1. I’m from a time where we didn’t get participation trophies, and I do find them ridiculous to be honest. However, we are living in an age where that’s becoming a standard. If it gets the millennial generation a reason to be more active, then I’m all for it. Promos like this aren’t hurting you or me, so let it be.

I just thought something like this was interesting.

    2. Stupid. Apple better get moving figuring out what they’re going to have made for them. At the rate they are going they won’t have anything to buy except a damn phone.
