Prince’s albums and songs utterly dominate Apple’s iTunes Store charts

Earlier today, the artist known as Prince died at the age of 57.

Born Prince Rogers Nelson, he churned out nearly 40 albums before dying at age 57 on Thursday. Since his 1978 debut “For You,” Prince has sold more than 100 million records.

We expected Apple’s iTunes Store and Apple Music charts to soon reflect the prolific Prince’s passing as, typically, an artist’s death, especially at such a relatively young age, creates much interest in their work and our expectations have since been fulfilled.

    1. Every legendary song writer/musician should plan on faking his/her death once or twice. Incredible how much attention that creates.

Fans might get upset, but I would be happy to find out Prince was still around.

      1. Good idea!
“Want music sales to increase in your lifetime Mr. Music Artist? Fake your death and go into hiding for a few months. Then come back to much relief and do a big world tour and watch the box office soar! Double $$$ whammy!”

  1. I have not nor will I download any music of Prince. But, hey, don’t let that stop anyone else doing so. So jump on the bandwagon, rush to spend your money. You never thought his music was worth much when he was alive, I cannot fathom how his death makes his music any more palpable.

    1. I don’t think you get it. There are so many choices in music, that we cannot listen to everything. And often we drift away from the music we loved growing up. When an artist like Prince dies, it reminds us of his great musical legacy and we can rediscover it.

It’s just like when anyone dies in the family. We rediscover for a period of time some of their memories and what they meant to us. This is entirely normal and your cold analysis ignores human nature.

      1. No, you don’t get it. I ever enjoyed Prince’s music and his death does not compel me to listen to his music anymore.

You should not be so sensitive, precious snowflake. My dislike of his music does not detract or diminish your sensibilities toward him. If you want to spend hours listening to his music and reminiscing that’s your choice. I have better things to do.

  2. A friend of mine that I new a long time ago was a Prince fanatic. Every time you stepped into his car Darling Nikki or something would be blaring from his speakers. Bret was quite the character. On one Prince inspired night we drove to the town and decided to go sledding down a smallish, snow covered hill. My friend took the first run. He quickly rushed down that sucker on his HS lunch tray. When Bret reached the bottom of the slope he smashed into a tree. He didn’t just tap it; his entire body stopped with a quick thump sound. Each leg ended-up on either side of the trunk. He basically scissored-slammed the thing going about 40 mph. It was like a cartoon, and one the funniest things I have ever seen. Thanks Prince.

  3. Prince sales/success – deservedly so!
most musicians nowadays are generic, superficial, commercial, like its ultimate robot Carrie Underwood, yet Prince is a rare real artist, creative soulful genius
