“With the iPad Pro name and features, the new 9.7-inch iPad will be Apple’s first to come with a starting price higher than $499,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“The smaller iPad Pro will start at $599 and include 32 GB of storage, according to sources,” Gurman reports. “The $599 base configuration is for a WiFi-only model, while higher-priced versions with 128 GB of storage and the ability to connect to LTE cellular networks will also be offered. ”
“While the $599 starting price for the smaller iPad Pro is higher than any 9.7-inch iPad before it, the 32 GB of storage does help balance out the pricing as the current $499 iPad Air 2 includes 16 GB of storage,” Gurman reports. “Apple will announce the new iPad at its event on Monday, March 21st.”

MacDailyNews Take: That’s an excellent price for what we expect will be such a capable, powerful iPad. These new 9.7-inch iPad Pros may go a long way to reigniting iPad unit sales growth.
128gb Space Grey….with Pencil
thank you very much!!
Cook’s greed knows no bounds.
Basically you’re paying an extra hundred bucks for the “Pro” in the title, as they should have scrapped the meager 16GB across product lines years ago!
This need to gouge loyal Apple consumers will come back to haunt them. I would recommend that everyone who needs a new iPad forego the upcoming so called “Pro” tablet and instead go for an Air 2.
Cook needs to replaced. He has repeatedly shown that profits are more important than us!
Go buy your galaxie tablet then. Then troll android sites to complain how crappy it is.
You should also complain to Bugatti. Is the Chiron really worth that much of a premium over the current run-of-the-mill Veyron? The Chiron costs $2.5 million dollars. Now that’s what I call a ripoff. No one needs a car that fast and it’s probably just a fancier body over the older Veyron chassis. That company’s greed knows no bounds. I’d want to fire their CEO for charging more than I can afford for a super-car but I don’t know who he is. However, I’m sure he is well-loved by his fans despite gouging their wallets.
/s It’s all relative.
I understand what you’re trying to say, but you chose a poor analogy. The Chiron is all new, and buyers are paying primarily for exclusivity.
Apple, on the other hand, is analogous to Lexus. They claim to be the most refined and best vehicle, with a premium price, but every now and then, they get beaten by the competition. It happens.
Doesn’t matter how much you spend on your car. They’re all prone to popped tyres.
No, YOU need to be replaced by a much more thoughtful & intelligent model of human being doofus.
There are devices by other manufacturers readily available for the cheaperati like you. I suggest you avail yourself of device manufacturer downgrading that fits your miserly budget. But first maybe work a job that doesn’t require a hairnet so you can buy the real deal. (Sorry, not suffering fools today.)
“Basically you’re paying an extra hundred bucks for the “Pro” in the title… ”
Basically, you just really don’t get it, do you?
You’re paying extra for the Pencil support, and it is totally worth it. Ever since they came out with the 12.9″ iPad Pro, I have been waiting for Apple to bring Pencil support to the smaller model.
A larger screen is nice, but my current iPad Air 2 is the perfect size and easily portable. I can’t wait to get my hands on this new iPad Pro.
I’m in.
Only a fool would want an iPad with 16 gigs to save $100. And these fools have probably already bought Android tablets. Enough with these silly people.
So easy to be judgmental of other people.
Apple advertises incessantly all the exciting things you can do with an iPad, many of which eat up memory fast. For offline operation, there’s no way around it. So why blame the consumer who buys a configuration that Apple is selling them? Apple could just up their game and stop raping people with inflated memory prices.
What is truly a slap in the face is soldering in components on Macs to ensure your customer can’t update or repair your durable aluminum-enclosure MacBooks and iMacs.
Nonsense and arrogant of you. Speak for yourself not everyone needs more than 16 GB storage. I do, I have the 128GB model. My 80 year old mother has no need for more than 16GB nor will she ever.
They’ll keep the iPad Air 2 on the market and give it a price drop. It’s still a fantastic tablet.
Agreed – I love my iPad Air 2. It’s a great device.
But I am so longing to get one with Pencil support!
Why would you expect the Air 2 to drop in price ? There is absolutely no need for Apple to do that, this “pro” model is 599 … why shoudl Air 2 be less than 499 ?
I remember Steve Jobs quipping that pencils are things that tend to get lost or misplaced.
