Migrants and refugees are not the same thing. Migrating is a proactive decision. Being a refugee is reactive. The motivation makes a big difference in the potential for a happy transplant. The refugees need help, but doesn’t it make more sense for the US to provide money and materiel to support countries with closer proximity to the need? There is something illogical in the notion of transporting people fleeing a war zone to half-way around the world to provide food, shelter, and medical aid. Those people generally want to return to their homes when the fighting ends. Logically you want to move war refugees as little as is necessary to keep safe.
I’m pretty sure there is a BIG difference between Legal Migration and Illegal Migration.

Muslim women and men started to wrap themselves up in turbans , chadors , burkas etc. (I watched this happen in real time, once no veils and then like five years later it was illegal to walk around without head covering) In the muslim country i was in people used to dance and sing, then all disappeared, hundreds of religious schools sprung up they started stopping school girls from PLAYING SPORTS !

Most countries taking Syrian refugees today have more lax screening than normal immigration due to time and numbers pressure (near one million to be vetted). The time pressure is due to politicians own agendas like Canada’s new PM who is trying to fulfil a stupid election promise. He’s taking in 25,000 within ONE MONTH ‘screening through’ those near 1 million, no way (if you read how they are screening them ) are they doing a good job screening (Canada is only 10% USAs population with corresponding less resources in security, immigration) . Canada is doing things like ‘batch screening’ where one or two people in a group like an extended family is screened (usually just by verbal questioning) and if they pass the whole ‘batch’ is deemed ok. One Canadian investigative reporter found out that people smugglers are paying certain refugees who have good chances of passing a screen (like with I.Ds) to ‘head’ fake ‘groups’. ETC. So if ‘Dad’ is Ok the whole batch with those ‘cousins’ are deemed ok….
That is REALLY different from normal canadian ‘immigration’ where a candidate can be screened over a year or more with numerous interviews and full paper i.Ds including from their family members who are NOT immigrating.
Again do the math , the chances of terrorists penetrating into Canada (which is on ISISL’s Fatwah death list) is now way higher .
Surely until USA figures out how to do properly USA shouldn’t rush into taking in refugees. The problems are different. We shouldn’t set our policy based on events in France. I am not saying we should do something less than what we are doing. What I am saying is blocking a vector out of fear won’t work when other vectors, such as normal immigration or actually home grown terrorism is the source. Instead of the Red Scare we have Islamic Scare. It was wrong then and it’s wrong now. When we went through WWII, how did we deal with German, immigrants and refugees? I know we interned Japanese, which was wrong. But other than that I don’t recall any issues regarding terrorism at that time. Though we now know the Japanese tried. Whatever we do as a nation has to be thought out carefully, logically and respectfully. Reactionary, xenophobic, prejudice actions cannot be tolerated.
I recall Vietnamese refugees going though UN camps, for years before landing to their new homes. I am not saying this is the best course but there is reference for it and I believe that’s not out of the question. The Syrians aren’t even political refugees either, they just have no place to live.

2) how do you let people in with practically no screening when Western politicians are so confused as shown in the news :
a) a muslim group supported by NATO (Turkey) shot down a Russian plane TRYING TO BOMB ISIS. then killed the downed pilot.
b) the USA supports the Pesh Merga the kurdish group, but the Pesh Merga is fighting the YPG the Syrian Kurdish group .The problem is the YPG is FIGHTING ISIS and is supported by many other Western countries… So how do you screen it?
I’m not saying USA is wrong to support the Pesh Merga (although many Syrians fighting Isis will disagree) , I’m saying that the situation is so chaotic and the politicians have no clue that ‘fast tracking’ refugees in those areas is crazy. Most Kurds (including the dad Abullah Kardi whose kids drowned, photos in the news and the front man for the Refugee campaign) belongs to one of these groups. Kardi belongs to the KRG group which is also fighting the Syrians who are fighting ISIS .
