Adele rejects streaming music services, including Apple Music, for ‘25’

“For weeks, the music industry has been awaiting the release of Adele’s new album, ’25,’ with a mixture of excitement and anxiety,” Ben Sisario reports for The New York Times. “The album is all but certain to be a gigantic hit, but Adele had not revealed whether she would release it on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.”

“Adele is said to have been personally involved with the decision about streaming,” Sisario reports. “‘Hello,’ the first single from ’25,’ was a huge hit when it was released last month, selling more than 1.1 million copies in the United States in its first week, the biggest number ever recorded for a download, according to Nielsen. The video has also been viewed more than 400 million times.”
