“Waterstones is taking Amazon’s Kindle off its shelves three years after the UK’s biggest bookseller and the web retail giant teamed up,” James Titcomb reports for The Telegraph.
“James Daunt, Waterstones’ managing director, said that sales of the e-reader had been ‘pitiful’ and that he welcomed every Kindle sale because ‘it brings you closer to getting it off your shelves forever,'” Titcomb reports. “Mr Daunt told The Bookseller: ‘Sales of Kindles continue to be pitiful so we are taking the display space back in more and more shops.'”
“Earlier this year, Mr Daunt said sales of the Kindle had ‘disappeared,'” Titcomb reports. “According to the Association of American Publishers, e-book sales fell 10 per cent in the first five months of the year in the US.”
