“When George Takei visited us last month, we were fascinated with his explanation of Star Trek‘s influence on the social progress and emerging technologies of today,” Robert Montenegro writes for The Big Think. “Series creator Gene Roddenberry was a visionary figure in so many ways that 50 years later we’re still trying to turn his dreams into reality.”
“The new Siri is hands free; you can access it via voice at anytime,” Montenegro writes. “Its capabilities have been boosted to the point where we’re awfully close to what Captain Kirk is able to do in the video below.”
Montenegro asks, “After all, isn’t the advent of Apple’s Siri just an excuse to make us all like Captain Kirk?”

Can you change “Hey, Siri” to “Computer”?
It would be nice if Siri, would wait for long dramatic pauses.
I would settle for a literal 2 second pause!
“The answer is… 42.”
Genuine People Personality subroutines aside… “Mmmmmmmmy pleasure to look that up for you. Oooooh.” 🙂
‘Share and enjoy!’
OMG! That’s Sigourney Weaver on “Galaxy Quest!” What a great movie!
“Just use the keyboard, Mr. Scott!”
Ah, a keyboard. How quaint!
Uh, Siri understood Anton Karidian?
But Siri has no gears or clicks.. So that means she’s not working. Also she has a personality defect, as in she appears to have one.
Just don’t ask Siri what 0 ÷ 0 is…
LOL I had to do it
“Imagine that you have 0 cookies and you split them evenly amoung 0 friends. How many cookies does each person get? See, it doesn’t make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies. And you are sad that you have no friends.
0/0 = indeterminate”
LOL, Not that’s just plain FUNNY!
Have you tried any of the other six indeterminate forms?
This may be against MDN posting policy, but if any Trek fans want to see the missing years of the original series 5-year-mission, (same characters but different actors) here is a popular fan fiction that isn’t painful to watch.

Thanks! Remarkable work. Some nice cameos from actual series members as well!
The only thing better than a desktop picture of El Capitan is a desktop picture of Kirk climbing El Capitan!
The ST:TNG P.A.D.D (portable access display device) was the original iPad
You should check out the beginning scenes of the Discovery Mission in 2001 A Space Odyssey. Poole and Bowman both using iPad like device.
I expect that, all this time, Apple has been working on ALL of the Star Trek technologies. They release each one only when the time is right. I long for the holodeck, but I believe that particular tech is far out on their product development timeline. I think what we need very soon is the phaser, at least one with stun capability. The skittling sounds are getting closer.
What’s really needed is the Transporter. But I think that’s a few more years away. 😉
My kingdom for a phaser!
Siri, calculate to the nearest decimal, the value of Pi.
Mmmmm . . . pie
“Computed and recorded, dear”
One of my favorite episodes
That computer voice sounds like F.L.U.D.D from Super Mario Sunshine
