How to make and receive phone calls on your Apple Watch

“One of the most surprising features of the Apple Watch has been the ability to answer calls right from your wrist without pulling your phone out of your pocket,” Cory Bohon writes for TechRepublic. “This is great for the quick call on speaker phone while you sit at your desk.”

The quickest and easiest way to make a call on the Apple Watch is by using Siri. This allows you to kickstart the Watch calling through your iPhone’s cellular connection. Press and hold the digital crown; When Siri appears, say ‘Call x on speakerphone,’ replacing ‘x’ with the name of the contact stored on your device that you wish to call,” Bohon explains. “Your Apple Watch will begin calling the person you specified.”

MacDailyNews Note: We just say to our Apple Watches, “Hey, Siri, call “x.” That’s it. It works just fine.

“Hold your Apple Watch in front of you (you don’t need to hold it up to your mouth or ear),” Bohon writes. “To adjust the volume of the speakerphone call, scroll the digital crown up or down during a call.”

MacDailyNews Take: It still makes us feel a bit conspicuous when we get a call in public and we answer with our arms held out in front of us. Hey, stop staring at us!

But, the Apple Watch calling features certainly are useful and convenient while alone in the car or out and about.

  1. “Press and hold the digital crown; When Siri appears, say ‘Call x on speakerphone,’ replacing ‘x’ with the name of the contact stored on your device that you wish to call” – Or much much easier . . Just say to your watch “Hey Siri, Call X” -same result. The watch knows if your phone is not in use to route everything through the watch.
