“Travel apps will be the biggest category of software for Apple’s new smartwatch at launch, a new report says,” Patrick Seitz reports for Investor’s Business Daily. “Strategy Analytics says travel and local apps will account for 15% of Apple Watch apps when the device goes on sale Friday. That’s a big change from smartphones, where travel apps make up just 3% of apps, the research firm says. These include apps for hotels, airlines and online travel agents.”
“News and entertainment apps will be the second-largest category of apps for the Apple Watch at launch, accounting for 13% of apps, Strategy Analytics said,” Seitz reports. “Health and fitness apps tied for third with lifestyle and shopping apps, with 12% each… Games will make up just 3% of Apple Watch apps at launch.”
“Apple CEO Tim Cook said on April 6 that the company had received more than 1,000 Apple Watch apps,” Seitz reports. “Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry said Tuesday that about 4,000 Apple Watch apps have been approved so far.”

MacDailyNews Take: Based on usage patterns (short glances), battery life, and display size, it makes sense that apps built for utility, efficiency (for user and battery), and convenience will dominate Apple Watch.
Will be going to Europe later this year, but with an iPhone (with a TruPhone SIM replacing my AT&T one) and an iPad. No watches need apply.
