Apple Watch will win and push Apple above one trillion dollars

“Any argument that the Apple Watch segment is too small or that the product is not needed is one which time and again has proven to be totally erroneous when it comes to Apple products,” Ophir Gottlieb blogs for Capital Market Laboratories.

“I don’t own an iPhone, iPad or iPod. I never have owned any of them,” Gottlieb writes. “I’m not an Apple fan boy.”

MacDailyNews Take: Our condolences, Ophir.

“Apple creates want better than any firm ever, and then sells to that want better than any firm ever. It has created as strong a brand loyalty as any firm ever, and through the generations of products has an immense base of customers that continues to grow at double digits even at already staggeringly high numbers. The Apple Watch builds right on top of the Apple ecosystem,” Gottlieb writes. “The Apple Watch could take AAPL past the one trillion dollar market cap level…”

    1. You’d be surprised how many analysts aren’t counting on AppleWatch to move Apple’s 10-ton needle. Even the pre-order launch wasn’t viewed as all that positive and there’s still that issue about long-term AppleWatch sales sustainability. I hear that profit margins for AppleWatch are off the chart but Apple is still going to have to sell an awful lot of them for at least a couple of years before Wall Street will admit to AppleWatch being somewhat successful.

With Apple, Wall Street likes to start with a “fail” attitude and wait until Apple can prove otherwise. AppleWatch may outsell every other smartwatch on the planet many times over but Wall Street will still be doubtful about it being “successful” under Tim Cook. It’s just the way Apple is always being viewed. Apple’s approach to running its business must be so unusual that Wall Street doesn’t see how the company can succeed. Although by now Wall Street shouldn’t believe it’s just a matter of luck.

  1. i don’t disagree with the guys sentiment..

but you really don’t ‘know’ apple if you haven’t used their products. Many small investors stuck with Apple through B.S ‘doom’ seasons because they use Apple stuff and feel “this stuff is great. This company can win “.

  2. it is a vindication for all the analysts now using proper HAM trajectories (+-BUN) when tracking AAPL, that these predictions are now becoming commonplace.

Kind of the “Law of Large Numbers” meets Business School 101.

  3. The often repeated argument that “no one wears watches anymore” because they carry a mobile phone is simply false. The truth is that not as many people are wearing watches. Previously, “everyone” wore watches. This, and the “everyone is just like me” syndrome, leads to some in the media to proclaim that “no one” wears watches these days (because they personally do not).

I’ll bet (out in the real world) that at least half of iPhone owners still wear watches every day. If those watch-wearing iPhone customers eventually replaced their conventional watch with an Apple Watch, Apple will sell Apple Watch in the HUNDREDS of millions over the next few years (even without creating a single new watch wearer).

    1. I actually think we’ll see higher penetration rates among the half that don’t wear watches, than among the half that do.

For most, they’re not wearing watches because the functions aren’t compelling. Apple Watch changes that equation.

  4. “I don’t own an iPhone, iPad or iPod. I never have owned any of them,” Gottlieb writes. “I’m not an Apple fan boy.”

That’s all I needed to read. He’s probably is a die hard Windows guy as well and I’d bet money he doesn’t own one share of Apple because he’s been wrong the whole time. Now he’s needs to write something people will read and he’s just pissed off because he missed the Apple boat a long time ago.

Yeah, he’s going to keep holding on to the rail until whatever ship he’s on literately hits the bottom.

  5. You know, I tried on the watch. My only problem with it, being a big watch wearer is it is too light. Way too light. I like to feel a watch on my wrist, this thing is like a feather. So no watch for me.

    1. Are you serious…? Get the 42mm steel model with steel link bracelet (shiny or black). 🙂

Weight depends on the selected model (including band choice). If the Sport model is “too light,” that’s a GOOD thing for those who use it with exercise.

    1. Maybe Apple will magically “buy back” all outstanding shares, except for ONE share you refuse to sell… 🙂 Then that one share will be worth the value of the company!
