Apple today released iOS 8.1 which includes new features, improvements and bug fixes, including:
● Apple Pay support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (U.S. only)
○ Photos includes new features, improvements and fixes
○ Adds iCloud Photo Library as a beta service
○ Adds Camera Roll album in Photos app and My Photo Stream album when iCloud Photo Library is not enabled
○ Provides alerts when running low on space before capturing Time Lapse videos
● Messages includes new features, improvements and fixes
○ Adds the ability for iPhone users to send and receive SMS and MMS text messages from their iPad and Mac
○ Resolves an issue where search would sometimes not display results
○ Fixes a bug that caused read messages to not be marked as read
○ Fixes issues with group messaging
● Resolves issues with Wi-Fi performance that could occur when connected to some base stations
● Fixes an issue that could prevent connections to Bluetooth hands-free devices
● Fixes bugs that could cause screen rotation to stop working
● Adds an option to select between 2G, 3G or LTE networks for cellular data
● Fixes an issue in Safari where videos would sometimes not play
● Adds AirDrop support for Passbook passes
● Adds an option to enable Dictation in Settings for Keyboards, separate from Siri
● Enables HealthKit apps to access data in the background
● Accessibility improvements and fixes
○ Fixes an issue that prevented Guided Access from working properly
○ Fixes a bug where VoiceOver would not work with 3rd party keyboards
○ Improves stability and audio quality when using MFi Hearing Aids with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
○ Fixes an issue with VoiceOver where tone dialing would get stuck on a tone until dialing another number
○ Improves reliability when using handwriting, Bluetooth keyboards and Braille displays with VoiceOver
● Fixes an issue that was preventing the use of OS X Caching Server for iOS updates

For those concerned: iOS 8.1 closes the POODLE security hole caused by use of SSL 3.0. All gone! 8.1 patches a further 4 other CVE issues as well. Hurray.

No iCloud, no problems. Sync your photos to your Mac at home.
I have a second generation iPad, an iPad Air and an iPhone 5.
I downloaded the release to my older iPad to see how things would play out. Cue the band! The update flushed out my constipated WiFi base station. Internet speeds are back to pre 8.0 speed levels. Praise the Jobs!
I’ll hold off updating my other mobile devices for a day or two but so far I am both pleased and relieved.
Good news for the iPad 2 experience you had. I’m downloading now to my iPad 2 and hopefully it will work. iPad mini retina is so fast again as well as iPhone 6 phone no issues blazing fast over wifi agin. Whew!!
Downloaded and installed on a couple iPad 2’s that were having keyboard responsiveness issues with online forms with 8.0.2. Unfortunately 8.1 has not fixed the issue even if i turn off autocorrect, predictive, and a few other options. So can’t put them back to work on clinic floor since waiting 3 seconds for each letter to register for each of the 100+ questions would drive anyone nuts.
Man I had to search for this post.. Read this days ago and almost posted.
My iPad 3 was having major keyboard responsive issues in iOs 7 even.. 8 I was hoping would fix it, and did not.
So after 8.1 didn’t help at all, decided to wipe and start fresh and see if it fixes the issue. After a complete reinstall and *no* import of my old apps.. The keyboard responsiveness is about 80% less.. It’s still sluggish but vastly improved.
Now to use phoneview to put back some specific items and just tough it out till I get my iPad Air 2 (hopefully soon)
So maybe you should try the same if you haven’t already.
Camera Roll – Why wouldn’t Apple make it to go straight to the Camera Roll from the Camera app? It still goes to “All Photos”, then you have to navigate to Albums, then to Camera Roll.
For me best thing is it now pairs my iPhone 6 plus with my Acura MDX. We need that in CA, hands free state.
Broke my email. Neither account can receive. I’ve been an Apple fan for a LONG time. Stuff like this has gotta stop.
Had a great iPhone 6 until 8.1. Now it’s acting strangely. Still slow wifi on my iPad 3. No, I have other iPhones and iPad 1 an iMac and windows puter, all have fast wifi. Also typing on the iPad 3 still is slow. Very slow. Apple needs to get better at their updates. Several people having same problems. Damn iPad and iPhone 6 problems really slows things down. Hope we get an update soon to fix all these problems. $400 for 128 Hb iPhone and then this
