“Demand for the new iPhones is higher than that seen in either of the past two years, AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel told Re/code,” Ina Fried reports for Re/code. “In particular, Apple and all the major carriers appear to have sold through their preorder allotments of the larger iPhone 6 Plus with all quoting longer ship times for that model.”
“An Apple representative said that the overnight sales of the new iPhones set a record, though Apple did not say how many have been sold,” Fried reports. “‘Response to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible with a record number of preorders overnight,’ Apple told Re/code.”

I’ll be a happy owner of a Verizon 4.7 inch in Space Gray on September 19th. Made my pre-order early this morning. I have no interest in the iPhone Plus (at least for now) but I’m sure glad Apple made it. I appreciate having the choice. The demand was there, the people wanted it. Premium customers who desire big screen phones no longer have to settle for dreck like the Scamsung Galaxy. Apple is firing on all cylinders.
Stayed up all night and was one of the lucky few to make it through T-Mobiles fiasco alive. I was able to snag me a Gold 6+ with delivery on the 22nd, fingers crossed, and now I can ship off my Galaxy Note 3 back to T-Mobile never to be dealt with again.
Hey R2, that’s the one I’m going to get. What memory size did you order? I’m getting a gold one for my wife also.
The 16gb. I don’t use a lot of data, most of my content is streamed so I don’t need much memory. My 16gb 5s has 3gb free and I have everything I need on here.
Agreed, our iPhone 4 models have 16GB and it’s plenty for us. I’m hoping to get the Verizon deal for the 6 with 16GB free with a 2 year contract. Hope you enjoy yours.
Likewise.
I followed through on my threat to use my wife’s upgrade. I put in my pre-order through Verizon this morning. There’s a silver 64GB iPhone 6 (the pygmy version) comin’ my way next Friday.
They got an order for 4 my family. All were the 4.7 inch (caused some grumbling, everyone but me thinks 4.7 inch is too big). One at 128 GB, the rest 64 GB. For the fun of it I stopped at a local Radio Shack, they said all but the silver 16 GB had sold out for earliest pick up. Looks like the pricing strategy will boost margins as more opt for 64 GB model.
But Kass said it was going to flop.
Rhymes with ASS! 😝
I guess this is a nice response to those snarky ads that Samsung placed in the past couple of days. Put your money where your mouth is, Samsung
Within minutes after launch my connection was below 1 Mbps and many of the Apple centric sites were showing 503 errors. I believe The iPhone 6 launch briefly crashed the Internet.
I did the preorder through Apple and got available to ship in 3 – 4 weeks. Wondering if it may be faster, or if it would have been better to get at a store, (which gets all sold out for weeks).
Stores always get some inventory every day, the question is, which models, colors, size. So you can hit a Apple Store every day and perhaps you’ll get lucky.
Doomed!
I stayed up until 3 am eastern trying to get my IPhone 6 Plus. I too had the frustration trying to order my iPhone 6+ thru Verizonwireless. I was calling to talk to a sells rep. & trying online (which crashed or stalled when submitting my payment.). Imagine the frustration going thru my head as the Safari browser’s blue progress line slowly creeped part way only to get kicked off the system & had to re-log into my account 6 times, while still on hold on the phone waiting for a sells rep to answer. Finally, at 3:35am, I got thru online and finally got the order to submit, only to get message my AmEx was denied! ( it has Max amount- I just paid it off so I can use it to buy IPhone)! So, I go thru the entire process again & used my MC & got success! Got conf. e-mail 30 min later saying Deliver by 9/19/14. Finally finished at 4am eastern. Still was waiting for sales Rep with Verizonwireless so I hung up.
But, but, but . . . . we all kept saying that it would be a flop. Our Galaxy class phone were here first and are just as good as anything Apple makes . . . . even better. Our next phones will be even bigger. We even will round over the sides and put fricken laser ion glass on them. You’ll see. We’ll be the best now that we know what to do and how to do it.
Laser ion glass. Lol
Even the Fandroids on sites like BGR are admitting that high-end market share is going to Apple in massive swaths. They are F’d!!! Android will well and truly be stuck with the low end with all the implications that has for quality apps. I love it.
You know with all the website problems. One has to wonder.
1. At least millions of users didn’t have too much of a problem.
2. Is it even Apple’s fault, most everyone wanted to get through the front door at the same time?
3. Seriously the backbone of the internet came to a crawl, at midnight.
4. What would it be like, what would the numbers look like, if the Internet and online retail servers had unlimited capacity?
Thats impossible!! There is no way a phablet like the iPhone 6 Plus could sell in record numbers. It doesn’t even have a stylus. /s
Got the gold and silver 6, both at 64 gb to be delivered on tb 19th! I feel lucky! got silicone slim fit cases for both as well, just for looks😻
