Apple stock held by institutional investors continues to increase

“Ownership of Apple stock by institutional investment firms edged up 1.3% in the second quarter from Q1, as confidence in the company’s performance rose,” Brian Deagon reports for Investor’s Business Daily. “The increase follows a 4.3% decline in Q1 from Q4, reports FactSet Research.”

“Though the Q2 increase was modest percentage-wise, the number of institutions that added Apple to their portfolios was far more impressive, FactSet said,” Deagon reports. “Apple added 121 new institutional owners in Q2, a 4.5% increase from Q1, for a total of 2,814.”

“The value of shares held among institutional investors at the end of Q2 totaled $354.8 billion,” Deagon reports. “Apple has more institutional owners than any stock. No. 2 is Microsoft, with 2,675 institutional owners holding stock valued at $252.2 billion. The next three, in order, are Exxon Mobil, Wells Fargo and Johnson & Johnson.”

    The institutional investors seem to be a very fickle lot given the huge price swings in the last 2 years without any change in the fundamentals.
    Price manipulation ??

  2. Anecdotally, it seems that AAPL is still institutionally under-owned at this point, comparably. The managers do appear to be catching up, though. And that’s a good thing.

    Yeah, $110 may not be too far off – especially if whatever forthcoming product announcements by Apple fulfill expectations (well, OK, we know how that goes…).
