iPhone 6 may have 0.77mm protruding camera lens

“A claimed schematic of the 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6 appears to support suggestions that the camera lens will protrude, though only by 0.77mm,” Ben Lovejoy reports for 9to5Mac. “Posted by Apple Club in Taiwan, it appears to show a 7mm thick casing with the thickest part of the camera extending 0.77mm beyond this.”

“Suggestions that the quest for thinness might result in an iPod Touch-style protruding camera lens on the iPhone 6 date back to March, and have been supported by claimed backplate photos as recently as this month,” Lovejoy reports. “There have, though, been conflicting reports, with one suggestion that Apple would be able to avoid this by restricting optical image stabilization to the larger 5.5-inch model.”

  1. 0.77 mm is approx. half as thick as a dime. That would be soooo hard to live with. It would just snag on everything. How on earth could anyone ever live with such a huge protrusion. Is Apple crazy ? /s

  2. So as not to lose slim face in terms of power maybe Apple should make an iPhone Pro for business users that’s thicker with twice the battery power while still offering thinner models for those who don’t need the extra power?

Of course more than business users would probably flock to this phone if it was offered.

    1. I agree. But even better would be if they designed these iPhone Pro models, then get rid of the none-Pro models, and have a lineup of just the Pro models but instead of calling them “iPhone Pro” just call them “iPhone.”

  3. Great if it allows for more space for OIS or a larger camera chip. If you put your iPhone in a case it won’t matter.

Also didn’t Apple have a patent for attaching additional lenses with magnets?

  4. Why does the phone have to be .77mm thinner. Use the space better the overall technology. This is a clear sign that the aesthetic influences of Steve Jobs was unique over at Apple. I fathom Jobs would not have found that to be a very zen design choice…

  5. This has not been a particular problem on the iPod. So I doubt it to be a real problem on the iPhone.

Well it will only be a mental problem for some users of the iPhone, and any android apologist to hate it, it’s something to grasp on to and hate. That’s almost a pun, because we all know you can hold on to .77mm of anything by the edges.

    1. Gollam, good on you for letting us know about the pun. MDN has perhaps the only comments section (that I regularly visit) where you actually have to let others know something is a pun or if something is a joke or if you are being sarcastic—you really do have to. I’ve noticed this for years and still find it quite odd. (hahaha)
