Amazon Japan jumps the gun and reveals vital iPhone 6 information

“Amazon’s recently getting famous for all the wrong reasons – first it listed the Mass Effect 4 video game well ahead of its actual launch, and now the online retail giant has unofficially divulged information about the iPhone 6 on its Japanese site,” Hafizah Osman reports for Stuff.tv.

“What Amazon Japan disclosed were the model, availability, and dimensions of the iPhone 6. According to Amazon Japan, the unit will be up for grabs as of 30th September, slapped with a price tag of 139,999 Japanese Yen (£805),” Osman reports. “Pretty hefty when compared to the highest capacity iPhone 5s, which retails for £709 SIM-free.”

“That is the price you’ll be forking out for the 4.7in 64GB model, assuming Amazon Japan is correct. The general belief amongst people is that the smartphone will ship in two variants – one in 4.7in, and the other in 5.5in. Even though the 4.7in smartphone made an unannounced debut, there was no mention of the 5.5in unit on the website. Even though the 4.7in smartphone made an unannounced debut, there was no mention of the 5.5in unit on the website,” Osman reports. “It also revealed that the Phone 6 will measure 130 x 65 x 7mm, and weigh 113g.”

        1. Ha! Few people here know what we’re saying. I’m having some fun with Englanese. I have poor skills in actual Japanese, but am acquainted enough to enjoy playing with it.

          私は人を笑わせることが好き!

    1. Only if they wanted it to leak, so as to blunt the impact of a higher price on launch. Or they wanted to test the waters to see if a higher price would be acceptable to the apple-buying public.

      1. And Apple has done that exactly never times in it’s entire history. They’ve certainly adjusted prices after launch, but there is zero chance they would fish around like this.

      2. And let it be known there isn’t a 5.5″ model, which I think would be a bad idea anyway. Two new models leads to confusion and indecision. Save the 5.5 (if there is one) for later. Perhaps even for an “off-cycle” release.

  1. It was probably someone on the web team screwing around… Either testing with dummy data that accidentally went live or someone playing a prank. There’s no way that Apple would give Amazon this information 2.5 months in advance. It’s not like as if they guys updating product pages need that much lead time.

  2. Maybe they should’ve said 1100$, the Fire phone needs all the iPhone-smearing disinfo Amazon can afford…

Seriously, I think it will be priced the same as today’s iPhone 5S, similarly to the 5C situation. Get the lower-end device for 100$ cheaper or so, or fork the extra washington for the bigger new device.

  3. I think this is BS. If this is Amazon Japan why is it mostly in English? If it is only the 4.7 inch version being sold why are two sizes in the photo? Why the weird grammar?

  4. I doubt this information is accurate. Why would Apple give this advanced info to direct competitor? And if you assume that it’s a trial balloon on Apple’s part, how would they know that Amazon would publish it? That doesn’t make sense either. My guess is the data is placeholder data for a future product. But only Apple knows for sure.

  5. I would suggest Amazon no longer gets the new iPhone at launch. They should be delayed a month because leaks seem to be in their best interest now that that have shopping device, er sorry, smartphone to sell.
. Letting the air out of the iPhone 6 release might be intentional. Thoughts?
