Samsung chairman hospitalized after heart attack

“Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Kun-hee remained hospitalized in stable condition Monday after being treated for a heart attack, company officials said,” Jung-yoon Choi reports for The Associated Press.

“Lee, 72, was rushed to a hospital near his Seoul home late Saturday after suffering breathing problems and received CPR due to symptoms of a heart attack,” Choi report. “He was later transferred to a Samsung-affiliated hospital in Seoul, Samsung Medical Center, where he underwent a stent placement procedure early Sunday in which tubes were inserted into his body to widen blood vessels to prevent a heart attack, according to Keich Lee, a spokeswoman at Samsung Global Communications.”

“The Samsung spokeswoman said Monday that Lee’s spontaneous breathing returned shortly after the operation and hospital officials expect good results. She said Lee remained hospitalized Monday,” Choi report. “The Samsung Group has recently been carrying out a broad range of mergers and reorganizations in what analysts say are preparations for handing over the reins to Lee’s three children — a son and two daughters.”

      1. You can actually live a Samsung life in Korea. I have Korean friends who joke about this. They make houses, foods, TVs, washing machines, kitchen appliances… and even clothes, I would assume. Everything you need to live.

  1. OMG! How will Samsung continue to innovate without their leader?? I mean… it takes a special leader to photocopy what Apple makes. The Samsung company will be doomed, if they lose their CEO. They will not be able to innovate (copy apple) any more, without Mr. Lee Kun-hee at the helm..

    1. Trust me, he’d never make the association. And in a “capitalist” realm, we are not to wish bad will on crooks except as it revolves around their business. For instance, there is an essential understanding that when crooked business people get to the pearly gates, they get a pass. St. Peter says “Oh, I see you stole intellectual property, paid substandard wages to you employees, polluted rivers, caused people downstream to get deathly ill. But that is all okay as you were just trying to maximize return on capital and as a result you can be as ruthless and underhanded as you want as long as you were doing it for the almighty dollar”.

  2. Yeah! I, to, wish Lee a speedy and full recovery and wish him to return to his day-to-day businesses to keep kicking Apple’s collective ass (I’m at Apple’s side, though!:) if that’s his game. Let him fight the good fight… or a bad fight if this is how he roll – whatever he likes, he has only this live. Live it your own way, man, on your terms. Make your own decisions. And we’ll watch and contest accordingly.

  3. The reality: Chairman Lee is currently in an induced coma during hypothermal therapy to limit brain damage. He’s supposed to wake up tomorrow, Korean time, but no one has a clue how much brain function was lost due to oxygen deprivation or if he will regain consciousness at all. The Korean financial press is taking for granted the transition to Lee Jae-yong as having happened today, regardless of future medical developments.

  4. I was afraid to even look at this article in fear of the snide remarks I would see. Not as bad as I thought. +1 to all those with good remarks.

Wish him well and may he return to compete. Competition makes Apple products better.

  5. I do wish him a rapid recovery despite everything his company has done but on a lighter note wonder if leaks of the new iPhone 6 might have been the trigger😜
